Larry King cancels Aussie tour

The Larry King: Standing Up tour, which was to visit Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne next month, is off.

Veteran talk-host Larry King will no longer be touring Australia.

The Larry King: Standing Up tour, which was to visit Sydney’s State Theatre, Brisbane’s QPAC Lyric Theatre and Melbourne’s Palais Theatre next month, is a 90-minute show drawing on his life on and off air and includes a Q&A with the audience.

“I’ve always done comedy, I’ve always tried to make people laugh. When I was a kid I was the class clown,” he recently told The Australian. “So far, so good, we haven’t had a bad evening. And now the chance to go to Australia, where I’ve never been.”

And still won’t have been, I guess…

The newspaper says there was no reason for the cancellation but speculates that ticket sales were low.

  1. Seriously I know he is a legend in his own country but mention his name here and most people give you a blank stare and say “Is he the boxing promoter used to be with Tyson?”
Watched him on Craig Ferguson and seen some of his stand up and he is a pretty funny guy but his association with comedy needed a little more cross promotion and was probably a little premature, but given his age and heart problems this may have been the only chance.

  2. Looked at it on the QPAC booking site a few days ago for curiosity. It’s one of the sites where you pick your own seat, and you can see exactly how many have been sold. Wasn’t very many, and that would include seats taken for comps.

  3. Larry King doing stand up comedy? What a bizarre idea for a night out. Perhaps the promoters could book Michael Parkinson to sing the Rolling Stones greatest hits instead?
