New Girl picked up for full season

Zooey Deschanel's comedy New Girl is picked up for a full a 24-episode season, which is good news for TEN.

The US Fall season is common for dipping its toe in the water, ordering around half a season of many shows to see how they perform with audiences.

But today we have the first full-season pick-up for 2011 with Zooey Deschanel’s New Girl approved for a full season.

FOX has ordered 11 additional episodes of the comedy for a 24-episode season, good news for TEN which owns the Aussie rights.

In the series Deschanel stars as a woman who is trying to get over her surprise breakup with her boyfriend and moves in with three single guys.

Kevin Reilly, president of entertainment at FOX said, “We love the charming Zooey Deschanel and the entire cast, we’re knocked out with the work that [creator] Liz Meriwether and the whole staff is doing and we are really psyched about the upcoming episodes in the pipeline.

“It’s great that audiences have responded so positively so far and we’re confident that even more people will embrace the show – and more comedy on FOX – this season.”

The half-hour comedy pulled 10.1 million total viewers in its premiere, higher than its Glee lead-in. Its second episode was 9.3 million.

Significantly, the pilot episode was made available for viewing on multiple websites prior to its premiere, including Hulu, iTunes and Fox.com plus Deschanel’s own blog, busting the theory that online previews diminish on-air appeal.

most networks have “Mid Season” shows they can replace if a shows ratings is terrible most of the time the network will run the 9-10 episodes it already ordered and not order anymore for jan-feb

  2. Does anyone know.. if a show in the US doesn’t make it to full season what do the networks do to fill in that timeslot? Do they just put in repeats of TBBT and 2.5 Men like their aussie counterparts?

  3. Good to see Zooey getting what could be her big break, amazingly talented and if anyone has not heard her sing fronting the duo “She & him” with the also amazing M. Ward do yourself a favour and listen to a song called “Change is hard”, channelling a modern day version of Patsy Cline.
