Nine News Melbourne senior reporter James Talia has resigned from the network after 12 years.
Hugh Nailon, Director of News at GTV, told TV Tonight: “After 12 very successful years at Channel Nine, James has decided to move on.
“James has been a loyal employee and outstanding contributor to the Network. During his time at Nine, James worked as overseas correspondent, did a stint in Canberra and worked for many years as state political reporter.
“We’re sorry to see James go, but understand that he wishes to make a fresh start. We wish James all the best.”
Talia’s stories have included the disappearance of toddler Jaidyn Leskie, the Asian tsunami, and being named Victorian state political reporter in 2006.
In Europe he covered the aftermath of the London underground bombings, Tony Mokbel’s extradition fight in Greece, Princess Diana’s inquest, the disappearance of Britt Lapthorne in Dubrovnik and the discovery of the missing diggers of Fromelles.
In 2008 he returned to Nine News Melbourne after Nine closed its London bureau.
Talia will finish on air next month. It isn’t clear yet what he intends to do next.

He’ll flit around the networks for a bit before settling at SBS or the ABC the same way a bunch of people who leave a commercial network seem to keep doing.

Ever since Tony Jones started reading news I’ve switched off – if talented reporters like James can’t get a chance to fill in, why wouldn’t they head out the door?

As well as being a great journalist, James is also one huge hunk of spunk, although that photo doesn’t do him justice. I have had a crush on him for years. Worked with him years ago and he’s also a lovely guy.

James really got screwed by Nine when they shut down their European bureau
only to then re-open it but appoint a Stefanovic to the post. Seems nepotism is alive and well in commercial TV land. Hope he moves on to bigger and better things.
