The Inbetweeners gets a movie sequel?

Are Neil, Will, Simon and Jay will set to wreak havoc once more? Not so fast....

Neil Sutherland, Will McKenzie, Simon Cooper and Jay Cartwright just won’t lay down and die….

The Inbetweeners will get to wreak havoc once more with a movie sequel, after the first film has grossed £25.8 million at the British box office.

The film, based on the TV series, sees the four Rudge Park schoolboys on holiday in the Greek island of Malia with a string of alcohol-fuelled misadventures -would we expect anything less?

The sequel will see the 4 boys reunited at a stag party and wedding.

A source told the Daily Mirror: “Initially we said the characters and themes had reached a natural conclusion. But the success has been too big to ignore and it makes perfect sense to give the fans what they want.

“It would be much more viable than making an extra series because the characters have moved on, so that’s what we’re doing.”

Simon Bird said: “The last week of filming was quite emotional because we spent so much time together over the last three years. Knowing it’s coming to an end is horrible, really.”

UPDATE: Despite initial reports, Iain Morris, co-writer has denied talk of a sequel.

Today he tweeted:  ‘first I’ve heard of it. Maybe the mirror are writing it? [sic]’

Morris added: ‘honestly, we haven’t even talked about it. It’s our first day in today. i’ve been drunk for a month.’

Buckley, who plays Jay, said in an interview with Metro.co.uk: ‘No one wants to see The Inbetweeners older and mature. I think it’s got to be the end of the Inbetweeners which is really sad.’

Bird, who stars as Will added: ”I don’t think anyone’s thinking of a sequel yet – that only becomes a viable option if the first one is a smash hit so we’ll cross that bridge when we come to it.’

  1. I thought that plan was for a couple of TV specials after the film?

Can’t wait to see it, love the show. As far as more, i think unless they have killer ideas, they should wait a few years and have a film that is a check in at where they are down the road in their lives.
