UKTV to showcase Andrew Davies Collection

UKTV is set to showcase the wonderful works of screenwriter Andrew Davies, starting with the Australian premiere of BBC miniseries South Riding.

It’s not often that the work of one writer gets coveted treatment by a channel, but if anyone deserves it, it’s UK screenwriter Andrew Davies (Pride and Prejudice, Middlemarch, Emma, Vanity Fair, A Room with a View, Brideshead Revisited, Little Dorrit).

He has won scores of awards including BAFTAs, Emmys and in 2002 was made a Fellow of BAFTA.

UKTV will screen a collection of nine of his finest works, kicking off with the Australian premiere of BBC ‘s 3 part miniseries South Riding (pictured), an screen adaptation of Winifred Holtby’s classic novel about a very modern career woman, who comes home to Yorkshire as headmistress at a struggling high school but finds herself losing her heart.

Davies will also offer commentary prior to the screening of his works including: The Line of Beauty, Bleak House, Tipping the Velvet, Daniel Deronda, Wives and Daughters, Sense & Sensibility, The Way We Live Now and He Knew He Was Right.

Deirdre Brennan, Director of Television, BBC Worldwide Australia comments, “UKTV is honoured to be showcasing the remarkable and much-lauded work of one of the world’s greatest storytellers Andrew Davies. His hosting brings a very personal perspective to the collection, and is a wonderful example of how we are the Best at British.”
