V8 Supercars at Phillip Island

Seven broadcasts the V8 Supercars at Phillip Island this weekend live across the country.

Seven broadcasts the V8 Supercars at Phillip Island this weekend and it’s good to see this event will be live across the country commencing from 12.00 noon in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, 11.30am in Adelaide and 10.00am in Perth.

After a slap from V8 fans last year, Seven is now showing some improvements in live sports broadcasts.

“As a sports producer, the most enjoyable part of the job is telecasting live,” Seven Head of Sport Saul Shtein said. “For both producers and viewers alike, there’s nothing like sport when it’s live, especially V8 Supercars.

“We’ve got an opportunity to do it and you just look at what we achieved with our Wimbledon coverage and the strength of that re-affirmed live coverage. In this new age with so much social and new media, where possible you want to be telecasting live.”

Because it’s on Seven and not 7mate the L&H 500 won’t be in HD. But Bathurst will be in HD on 7mate, as will the Gold Coast 600 and at this stage, Sydney 500. V8s Supercars Television supplies the vision to Seven.

V8 Supercar Chairman Tony Cochrane said, “We are about to start the countdown to the Sydney Telstra 500 with this critical season of endurance that is steeped in tradition with the 500 and then the Mount Panorama classic. Australians hold these races dear to their hearts and to add the incredible Armor All Gold Coast 600 to the mix makes it all the more appealing.

Seven will also broadcast the qualifying races that determine the L&H 500 grid from 2.30pm to 5.30pm Saturday. Raceday Xtra will feature the Porsche Carrera Cup and Aussie Racing Cars on both days.

  1. @Justin, I dunno about Bris and Adel but I doubt that Perth would ever get the aus open night sessions live on Seven, because Seven’s news, tt and h&a rate very highly here. It would be more likely to screen live on 7two, like wimbledon did this year.

  2. @Guy, the Ice guide on this site has AFL live at 7:30 on Seven in Sydney on Friday and on a 30 minute delay in Melbourne, at 8pm, methinks that is an AFL directive rather than Seven’s choice for a change.

  3. Just out of interest I will repost a post I made on the V8 Supercar site but unfortunately must have hit a nerve and they didn’t print it, it is in response to a Kiwi quite rightly complaining about the fact that it is not live in New Zealand.

A few things need to be highlighted here; we have Always had live coverage here in Australia.
Last year’s indiscretion in delaying the final stage of Bathurst is what is being redressed and as broadcast rights are being renewed coincidentally this is now being heralded as a new “thing”.
The second thing is as an Australian I find it hard to believe a Country that is included in and does a fantastic job in staging one of the Championship rounds has not got live coverage of one of the world’s greatest races.
This has got to be redressed and I would find it disgusting if V8 supercar does not hold some last minute meeting with your broadcaster.
PS I actually like the sound “literally” of your 7 Litres COTF and believe this category needs to go Silhouette as the good old days of real cars seems to be gone.
Seven’s public relations people must be throwing that line all over the media “As a sports producer, the most enjoyable part of the job is telecasting live” has been in three stories I have read today.

  4. Yes it will be in Full HD, go to the V8 Supercar website and check out the story in full.

As David said V8s Supercars Television supplies the vision to Seven, it’s up to ch7 as to which channel it ends up and thus SD or HD.

  5. What about Friday night and the AFL Final with Sydney V Hawthorn? Its delayed in Sydney. Even if they showed it on 7mate Live i would be fine with that. I just can’t believe that at this stage it will be delayed. I want it Live because its a Final!

  6. I still think TEN would do a better job and bet each round would be on ONE in full HD with just the main races on TEN in a shorter format, probably no qualifying. And given the majority of the country has made the switch to digital and HD there is no reason most fan can how watch it in HD if they choose.

@col – I don’t think most fans see it as Ford v Holden as much as they used to, it’s more about the teams and the drivers regardless to the make of car, which on a technical point both makes share the majority of components these days any way.
