AGT: 5 series, 15,000 auditions and….. 100 million viewers?

Seven's publicity for its Australia's Got Talent specials isn't shy at adding up the numbers.

Wow, let’s not get too carried away….

Seven’s publicity for its specials, Australia’s Got Amazing Talent reckons that across its 5 seasons the show has had “15,000 auditions and 100 million viewers”

100 million? Heck.

For a country of 22 million that’s quite a feat.

I’m sure they mean adding up all the audiences together, which is very creative.

I wonder what the total is for 4 seasons of Packed to the Rafters is… y’know, the show they halted last night to make way for these clip shows?

4 seasons, 123 auditions and 924 million viewers?

Channel Seven’s Australia’s Got Talent has been the nation’s number one variety show for five years, and to celebrate host Grant Denyer is taking us on a look back at all the weird and wonderful performances in Australia’s Got Amazing Talent.

Over the years the time-slot has changed… the set changed… even some of the judges changed… but the one thing that has remained the same is that Australia does indeed have talent.

The nation’s largest talent quest has travelled to every corner of the country, unearthing stars and kick-starting the careers of some of Australia’s biggest names in entertainment, from Justice Crew to Mark Vincent. Over four million Australians watched 14-year-old schoolboy Jack Vidgen take out the $250,000 grand final prize this year.

Plenty of programs might call themselves ‘variety shows’ but none can match the extraordinary diversity of Australia’s Got Talent. There are the customary singers, dancers and all that jazz, but Australia’s Got Talent is also responsible for some of the most bizarre and jaw-dropping TV moments the country has seen – from contortionists, acrobats and yodelers to sword swallowers and even a spoon player. Then there’s that last category that can only be labeled as ‘Miscellaneous’ (looking at you, Watermelon Man).

Australia’s Got Amazing Talent will revel in the memorable moments from the first five series, including all the antics and acerbic comments from judges Dannii Minogue, Red Symons, Tom Burlinson, Kyle Sandilands, Brian McFadden and host Grant Denyer.

Tuesday 1 November 8:30pm on Seven.

  1. Perhaps Seven were tallying up other living organisms within the presence of a TV during the airing of an episode of AGT (e.g. dustmites, insects, arachnids, bacteria, plants, fungi etc).

You’re shameless, Seven. Bet that testimonial won’t make it to air.

  2. You’re allowed to count multiple views by a single person as multiple viewers? Cool. Does that mean TV Tonight has had over 1 billion viewers? 😛
