Arrested Development promises new episodes and movie

The Arrested Development cast plan to shoot a limited-run TV series of 9 to 10 episodes and that rumoured movie.

Slap me and tell me it isn’t April 1st. Arrested Development is set to return with talk of new episodes and that rumoured movie.

The entire cast reunited on the weekend at  The New Yorker Festival where creator Mitchell Hurwitz revealed that he was halfway through writing the movie script that he wanted to start shooting next summer.

The movie doesn’t yet have a release date, but while the creative aspects have been largely worked out, the business side is still being negotiated.

“We’re all game,” Hurwitz said. “We’ve hated being coy, but we’ve been trying to put together this ambitious idea.”

But more excitingly he said his plan is also to shoot a limited-run TV series of 9 to 10 episodes and catch up on the characters’ lives in the five years since the series ended.

Shooting for the TV show is also tentatively set to begin next summer.

Has to have Liza return as “Lucille Austero” please?

  1. Oh, goodie. This always deserved higher ratings than it got. As Steve says, hopefully it’ll do a little better this time around now that some of the cast are more widely known.

    “Analrapist” – LOL!

  2. Jason Bateman tweeted that they’ll be shooting the episodes and movie at the same time in the next American summer, to be released early 2013. Exciting!

  3. Nice, hope this definitely happens!

Seems a decent approach because I guess the film won’t now have to spend any time re-establishing characters or what they’ve been up to.

  4. I remember a lot of discussion and an announcement about a movie when the series was first cancelled. I understood that back then (in 2006 or 2007) Michael Cera was the only cast member who wouldn’t commit?
