Slap me and tell me it isn’t April 1st. Arrested Development is set to return with talk of new episodes and that rumoured movie.
The entire cast reunited on the weekend at The New Yorker Festival where creator Mitchell Hurwitz revealed that he was halfway through writing the movie script that he wanted to start shooting next summer.
The movie doesn’t yet have a release date, but while the creative aspects have been largely worked out, the business side is still being negotiated.
“We’re all game,” Hurwitz said. “We’ve hated being coy, but we’ve been trying to put together this ambitious idea.”
But more excitingly he said his plan is also to shoot a limited-run TV series of 9 to 10 episodes and catch up on the characters’ lives in the five years since the series ended.
Shooting for the TV show is also tentatively set to begin next summer.
Has to have Liza return as “Lucille Austero” please?

Come on!
One of the best series ever written.
Oh, goodie. This always deserved higher ratings than it got. As Steve says, hopefully it’ll do a little better this time around now that some of the cast are more widely known.
“Analrapist” – LOL!
I think I just Blue myself
There is no doubt that this is going to pull in huge ratings, now that most of the cast are more famous than they were (eg: Michael Cera) when the show first aired.
Six seasons and a movie!
*dies* this is amazing news!
Marry me Mitch Hurwitz…. Best news ever
Sky rockets in flight!!!! 🙂
Jason Bateman tweeted that they’ll be shooting the episodes and movie at the same time in the next American summer, to be released early 2013. Exciting!
Yay! I may have to contact my analrapist (analyst cross therapist) because of my shock and excitement over this news!
Nice, hope this definitely happens!
Seems a decent approach because I guess the film won’t now have to spend any time re-establishing characters or what they’ve been up to.
Fantastic news! Have been waiting on the movie since it was rumored. Can’t believe we might get a new series as well!
This is the best news ever! Hearing about the movie was good enough, but a new series too? Awesome.
Hooray, best news ever. I hope they are not forced to utter “I’ve made a huge mistake” afterwards…
I remember a lot of discussion and an announcement about a movie when the series was first cancelled. I understood that back then (in 2006 or 2007) Michael Cera was the only cast member who wouldn’t commit?
Happy Happy Joy Joy!!!
First Dallas is coming back next year and now Arrested Development will likely return.
Oh pinch me I must be dreaming.
Oh god I hope it’s true, Portia de Rossi needs a good gig.
*happy dance*
Frozen bananas for all!
