Change of heart as Rugby World Cup returns to GEM

Nine decides to simulcast Friday and Sunday games of the Rugby World Cup on GEM after all.

On again, off again scheduling of the Rugby World Cup on Nine and GEM, will see both Friday and Sunday games simulcast on GEM after all.

As a result A Current Affair is out.

I can’t really offer much insight here as Nine didn’t respond to my questions about RWC earlier in the week and is the only network that does not send Amendments. It appears to be a very last minute decision as not all online Guides have the info yet.

But at least it’s available in HD for those who want to watch it.

The Wallabies, shattered after their semi-final loss but boosted by the return to their starting lineup of Kurtley Beale and Berrick Barnes, face Wales at Eden Park with Nine’s broadcast starting at 6.30pm AEDT tonight on Nine, 6.00pm AEDT on GEM.

Then at 6.30pm AEDT on Sunday, the tournament comes to a north-versus-south climax when France, “Les Tricolores”, do battle with the New Zealand All Blacks at Eden Park.

The All Blacks, who have reached the final unbeaten, are chasing their first Rugby World Cup crown since winning for the only time in 1987, the year the tournament began, while France has yet to taste victory.

Wallabies legends George Gregan and John Eales head up the Wide World of Sports rugby broadcast live from Eden Park. On the expert panel is former Wallabies captain Andrew Slack, test prop Benn Robinson and host Ken Sutcliffe. Tim Sheridan will report live from the sideline at Eden Park.

  1. Rubbish again from 9 – as soon as the game finished, they went to Underbelly. I mean, if Aus were playing, I am sure they would have stayed with it. That was the only good thing about having it on Gem – they stuck with it until the trophy presentation, that is the main part.

  2. @ Archer…. your comment is deeply offensive to the tea lady community, they are blessed with far more intelligence, foresight and commonsense than the indecisive fools in the prog dept.

  3. Nine are really taking the p!ss. Do they really think that 3 hours notice is sufficient? Just what the hell is going on in their programming department? Is anybody left or is all of the primetime scheduling now done by the cleaner when they turn up in the afternoon? That would certainly explain a lot.

  4. Absolutely stupid decisions. From HD, to no HD to, HD! My head is spinning! Is it too much to ask for one decision and not many. How these TV networks are going, the viewer will not see eye to eye anymore!

  5. WTF is wrong with Nine. Cant they just stick to putting it on HD and promote this event with a bit of integrity. They have treated the RWC like an ugly cousin. They should be barred from having the next Rugby World Cup!
