The funding round for the 2012-13 Indigenous Broadcasting Program opens today.

The Government will provide $15.46 million to support Indigenous broadcasting projects.

“The work done by these Indigenous media organisations is critical to the Government’s Closing the Gap policies,” Senator Stephen Conroy said.

“Indigenous broadcasting is a critical tool that enables culture, language, music and local messages to be distributed effectively by Aboriginal and Torres Straits peoples.

“The Indigenous broadcasting and media sector provides employment and training opportunities, promotes health and safety messages and contributes to the overall well-being of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.”

Applications for the 2012-13 funding round will close 3 February, 2012.
