Seven West Media boss Kerry Stokes was rushed to hospital in Perth moments before he was to hand over a cheque for $1.5 million at Telethon.

Seven West Media boss Kerry Stokes was rushed to hospital in Perth last night moments before he was due to hand over a personal cheque for $1.5 million at the annual Telethon.

Stokes is believed to have fallen down a set of stairs at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre just minutes before the tally tipped the magic $10 million mark at about 9pm.

Seven CEO Chris Wharton said Stokes, 71, was sorry he couldn’t be there to close Telethon and thanked a number of people on his behalf.

The final figure at the annual fundraiser hit a record-breaking $13.4 million.

Amongst the donations were an anonymous Perth family, which matched the public’s donations dollar for dollar from 4.30pm. They pledged a total of $1m.

Amongst the stars who attended Telethon were Marcus Graham, Charles Cottier, Lynne McGranger, Esther Anderson, Ryan Corr, Luke Jacobz, Hugh Sheridan, Jack Vidgen, Timomatic, Justice Crew, David Jones-Roberts, Melissa Doyle, Mark Beretta, Natalie Barr, David Campbell, and George Houvardas.

  1. WA people, we can be proud!

What an outstanding amount – actually bought a tear to my eye when the final tally was read out. Little kids donating their pocket money etc – just amazing.

  2. Stan Walker was there too ay bru.

Bella’s right, the tribute and standing ovation for Fiona Stanley was wonderful, and very deserved! I feel sorry for Fat Cat in that hot suit on such a day!

  3. Sad to hear that. I wondered what happened.

Another great and successful Telethon. I think my highlights was the tribute for Professor Fiona Stanley, Fat Cat old footage and 1400 people breaking arecord for Zumba in 36 degree heat.
