MasterChef a recipe for champions

There’s a lengthy and insightful article on the three MasterChef Australia champs, Julie Goodwin, Adam Liaw and Kate Bracks, in today’s Sunday Telegraph.

It’s the first time all three have come together.

These days Julie Goodwin has a No 1 best-selling cookbook, a regular guest spot on the Today show, a magazine column, and a second cookbook hitting the shelves tomorrow.

Adam Liaw is doing cooking demonstrations and “guest menu-ing” at functions, working on his second cookbook and trying to find a location for the Japanese izakaya restaurant he plans to open early next year.

2011 winner Kate Bracks is working on a dessert cookbook to be released in April and still hopes to open a bed and breakfast in her hometown, Orange.

As well as speaking highly of the show, and why wouldn’t they, they are als o positive about judges, Matt Preston, George Calombaris and Gary Mehigan, noting theirmentoring both on and off camera. Goodwin says she’s been exchanging emails with Preston about her upcoming trip to Italy, getting some tips on places to eat.

“They’re not contractually obliged to look after us after the show,” says Liaw. “But they do go above and beyond the call of duty.”

Matt Preston repays the compliment, by saying of the three, “They’re all down-to-earth, show humility, are strong under pressure, resilient in the face of disaster and can cook really, really well.”
