Rugby World Cup: Live in HD on GEM

Nine acts on criticism of its Rugby World Cup coverage by giving sports fans exactly what they want.

Good news everybody…

Sunday October 16: Australia v NZ. Live.

I’m also pleased to advise Nine sent an Amendment with the info, following on-going problems with scheduling advice and Media Watch criticising its coverage earlier this week.

  1. @MJL – mate, they’ll be far too busy encouraging us to bet and “expressing their personal opinions” regarding compulsory betting limits to be able to provide any useful information.

  2. Its a shame because the Rugby League does look really good in HD on 9, better I think that AFL on One HD. Can’t wait till anologue gets switched off so hopefully we don’t have this anti-HD rules in place!

  3. Ch9 shouldn’t need to be told, they should be Using the brains before hand!

Ch9 has 3 channels to choose from so there is no excuse for Lackluster Broadcasts of Sporting events they are committed too, the same goes to Ch7 & Ch10, There is no excuse!

  4. They really shouldn’t have to be told though. Nine should just do it, not wait for criticism and then last minute do the right thing. Let’s see whether NRL coverage in Adelaide gets shown live on GEM next year. That’s what i’m waiting for

  5. This is good news but Nine are far too late making their minds up about this. Lots of people still rely (foolishly) on TV guides printed in the weekend papers or TV Week. Those people aren’t going to know about these changes unless they happen to catch an ad on Nine, which they won’t if they don’t normally watch Nine (so, maybe not that foolish then ;-)).

  6. Wow. If the league is in HD on GEM i might actually watch it. Foxtel online guide still has that 64 classic “The Yellow Rolls Royce” on GEM at 3:30. And what a fantastic use of the HD bandwidth it would be if it were to stay. Nine is an absolute disgrace.

  7. GEM is Simulcasting the Rugby World Cup Matches with Channel Nine this weekend and GEM is also going to Broadcast the Trans Tasman Test Live and in HD and it will be Simulcasting with Channel Nine

  8. Yes but will it still have the awfully one-sided Kiwi commentators who, I can only imagine, will be intolerable when “their” team is playing? If so I’ll be sticking with Fox Sports HD.

  9. Nine is also saying that the Rugby League Test in Newcastle on Sunday arvo will be live and in HD on GEM:

    Wide World of Sports
The rugby league Test between Australia and New Zealand will be LIVE nationwide on Nine from 3.30pm AEDT on Sunday and will be simulcast nationwide in HD on GEM.

  10. Wow! This is exciting news for every Australian that you wants to watch the World Cup in HD on GEM, I really hope that they do this for the Grand Final as well even though the Wallabies aren’t even in it

  11. Even though I am not a sports fan, glad to see Nine is finally seeing what the viewers want, but I’m guessing this for tomorrow’s news:

Gone: Rugby World Cup Semi-Finals, In: 1933 Scratchy B&W Movie No One Has Heard Of.
