Simpsons actors on pay deadline

The Simpsons actors have been asked to decide by noon on Friday (US) whether they will accept a demand from FOX that they cut their pay.

Dan Castellaneta, Julie Kavner, Nancy Cartwright, Yeardley Smith, Hank Azaria and Harry Shearer have been asked to cut their payment per episode from $440,000 to $250,000 per episode. The six offered last week to accept cuts to $300,000 per episode, in exchange for back-end payments they don’t currently receive, but the studio rejected the offer.

If no deal is reached, the current, twenty-third season will be the show’s last.

But the actors have commissioned a study estimating the show has made $1 billion in profits as ammunition in their negotiations with 20th Century Fox TV.

The study projected that the studio will eventually make about $2.8 billion from the show through 23 seasons.

But sources say both sides seem hopeful for a deal.

“It’s not emotional on either side,” one person told The Wrap. “After 23 years both sides understand each other and want to reach a deal.”

  1. The Simpsons Have just been renewed for another 2 seasons at least:

FOX has renewed The Simpsons, the longest-running comedy in television history, for an incredible 24th and 25th season, bringing the series total to an astonishing 559 episodes. The Simpsons airs Sundays (8:00-8:30 PM ET/PT) on FOX.

In the words of Homer Simpson, “Woo Hoo! I outlasted Andy Rooney!”

  2. Thev’e flogged the dead horse for over a decade now , they have made there point the show wont be beaten anymore by a longest running series. What are they trying to do eclipse Days Of Our Lives , you will never catch that .Just goes to show that greed is alive and well in the good ol US of A.

  3. There are 2 ways to look at this. One is that the Voice actors are greedy and considering most average people earn way less then that, that the voice actors should be grateful and shouldnt complain, but there is another way and that is to look at it in context, Fox has made millions if not billions out of the simpsons through marketing the show and characters on almost everything you could think off, and with that in mind if you thought it in this way then you would agree with the voice actors, that they deserve alot more considering the network and the company make alot more from it. In my opinion i think they should just exept the lousy 200,000 grand per episode and just keep doing it, they should count themselves lucky they have a important asset and that is there amazingly good and versatile voices (i wonder if they are insured) so they can bartor with there employers, unlike the majority of the worlds working class who cannot. This latest pay dispute joins the likes of the NBA and Micheal C Hall. In this econonomy i think they should count themselves fortunete that they still have a job, besides the writers should be payed more if we want better story lines and dialoguee, i enjoy the simpsons very much but even i can see they just keep rehashing old ideas, i mean how many times have we seen moe’s tavern being torn down only to have it open as something else (pub, family restourant and new club/bar for gays). Relying on the voices alone is not going to get it done.

  4. If the Simpsons are ever going to end it should end with a bang 😀 (like a massive TV special or something)

Not due to pay rates (Their still getting a big amount….) I’m a big fan of the Simpsons. But I think it’s time to end is coming…. I haven’t watched it on TV in years. (While I can re-watch seasons from 1- 10 over and over again)
