Torchwood’s future unclear

"I don't know if there will be more," says Executive Producer Julie Gardner.

After their least season, should Torchwood ever make a return? Not if it’s dependent on the USA. Sorry, it was an idea that just lost me…

Executive producer Julie Gardner has admitted that the show’s future is uncertain.

“I don’t know if there will be more,” she said. “The thing about there being more or not – you look at Torchwood, and it’s always had such a labyrinthine history.

“For this new season, Torchwood has been off the air for two years in the UK. The weird thing is there are some series where that would really matter. It would be a real problem. I think Torchwood is so elastic in some ways and has had such a strange peculiar life.”

Starz CEO Chris Albrecht has previously said much is reliant on series creator Russell T Davies because “he has a lot of things on his plate.”

  1. I was looking forward to Miracle Day, but I stopped watching after the first few episodes. Apart from a few scenes with Gwen, there was absolutely nothing appealing about the new series for me.

I wouldn’t mind tuning in for future adventures with Jack and Gwen, but I’ll avoid anything that includes the newly introduced character of Rex. I’d be happy for Jack and/or Gwen to pop-up in Doctor Who once a season for the next few years with perhaps some telemovies in-between? Moffat wrote Captain Jack as a fun and flirty adventurer and it would be great to see that side of Jack return.

  2. I don’t mind a story arc over a season, but please, for the love of the gods, keep the show episodic, or at least have some shorter arcs going on. In any case, assuming the show’s going to stay in the US, I think I’ll pass.

  3. I liked Miracle Day, though I too felt it could have been a little less drawn out. The standard six eps for a british series would have been better imo.

I didn’t like CoE at all.

I’d like to see more Torchwood, but maybe not a new series every year. Maybe they could just do a mini series/ tv movie every now and then.

  4. It would be a shame if Torchwood didn’t return, but agree that Miracle Day was just too dragged out. It was a good story but lacked the pacing of the original as well as that British flare of tongue in cheek comedy to go with the great writing.

  5. Hmm… I watched all of the episodes after they aired within a couple of weeks. I guess that made it seem shorter, rather than longer like most of the complaints here…. I couldn’t watch them quick enough!! Loved it 🙂

  6. @Jesse
Miracle Day was only meant to be 6 episodes then starz ordered 4 more which made Davies and Gardner drag the story out

But i want to see the fallout of rex being immortal now

  7. Miracle Day was just too long. It felt like 5 episodes stretched to 10, and didn’t have the same impact as Children of Earth. The ending was more a relief than anything.

If Torchwood comes back, I’d rather another 5 parter (and preferably set in Wales where it belongs).
