New US drama series Pan Am, starring Christina Ricci and Margot Robbie, has lost 38% of its audience since its premiere.
The ABC period drama averaged 6.4 million viewers on the weekend, and a 1.9 rating/5 share in the all-important 18-49 demos.
The show dropped 27% from last week.
Against NBC’s Sunday Night Football, ABC’s whole night slumped, with Desperate Housewives dipping to 8.5 million viewers, and 2.7/6 in 18-49s. It tied its series low, even though it was ABC’s best performing show for the night.
So far the US Fall season continues to favour new comedies, although some shows such as Homeland have been critically applauded.
Pan Am will air in Australia on Nine.

@Jerome & @Steve Sydney – I think this is actually made by Sony Pictures. The ABC-Seven output deal is for content made by ABC Studios not everything shown on the ABC network.
Mad Men worked well for SBS but would never have lasted on Nine. It will be the same for this series which doesn’t look anywhere near as good.
Terra Nova’s ratings will continue to fall, both there and here, as more people realise that it’s just a kid’s show. The CGI is actually very good but there clearly wasn’t any money left for a decent script or direction.
Pan Am, why call it that. They went belly up?
Saw the 1st episode and thought it was glossy rubbish, so no surprise at the drop in numbers.
@Guanolad & steve, you speak as if 9 is able to freely pick and choose what shows they want for their network. There isn’t anything 9 can do about Warner brothers inability to make drama. But that said it appears no production company can, in this mornings ratings even front-runner Terra Nova took a big dive.
@ Steve. Totally agree with you. these preriod dramas will always be suited to cable or pay tv, because of the niech audience which goes along with it. If it keeps slipping its bad news for NIne because the show will get the chop.
“Pan Am will air in Australia on Nine” should really say Pan Am will air in Australia on Nine for 2 weeks before being moved to GO!
Period shows will always be more suited to cable TV, so this show probably won’t last.
Interesting how Seven is used to buying up all of ABC’s hit shows now it seems they leave the duds for Nine to pick up …
Of course it will air on Nine. Their track record for picking failures is at almost 100%, giving them more opportunity to replay their vanishingly few “hit” shows over and over and over.
If this is losing so much ground I wouldn’t count on Nine showing it any time soon, Maybe on GEM next year if it gets the axe.
