Nine’s summer of cricket begins this Thursday with First Test: Australia v New Zealand live from the Gabba.
The broadcast begins 10:30am AEDT and continues Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
Wide World of Sports presents the opening test match between Australia and New Zealand, live from the Gabba. With a new Australian Test Captain at the helm, Michael Clark will be looking to draw first blood against the Blackcaps. Join Richie Benaud, Mark Nicholas, Bill Lawry, Tony Greig, Michael Slater, Ian Healy and Mark Taylor for all the action.
Guides also indicate Simon O’Donnell will host the lunchtime Cricket Show despite recent advice he would be stepping down for the AFL Sunday Footy Show.

completely agree with you, err…Noodles. It’s only logical. Just make sure if they do, that’s it’s GO and not GEM since that doesn’t work on my foxtel satellite. The other time-friendly option is to watch the 2 hour highlights package on foxtel at the end of the days’s play. That said, there’s nothing better than Live test match cricket. Can’t wait!
The other difference (and most significant one) is that Fox Sports stay with the cricket until it finishes. Until nine do that too – they will always be a poorer version.
Ozzies suggestion (transfer to GEM or GO at news time) is good common sense approach that benefits the viewers – so I bet it won’t happen 🙁
@Michael…dumb il informed comment…keep it to yaself…Nein do cricket extremely well… if i do say so myself…oh and mate…alot of the camos that work on Nein cricket …do Foxtel stuff as well…so mate the only difference would be the commentators…
No Ian Chappell by the looks of things either, or for that matter a visiting NZ Commentator? For me, it’s TV on mute and ABC Radio on except for Day 3 when I’ll be at The Gabba.
And I guess the first poster is blinded by the lights so to speak, no-one cares about this 20 over comp or even 20 over cricket in general now that they realise just what it is.
Michael Slater said in a recent interview with Triple M’s Rush Hour that he will be the new host of The Cricket Show this year.
Hopefully Foxtel can one day get the joint rights with Nine and can show it Live in HD.
No HD. 🙁
Pretty sad you can watch this test live in HD in India and most of Africa.
@goggy- Same guy/chick that was responsible for “excitment”?
A match that takes 5 days to play, then could probably end up in a no-result draw? Yawn!
So glad I got Fox Sports 😀 They’re screening the AFL Grand Final in HD right now!
No Ian Chappell then?
Hope GEM airs ‘The View’, since it won’t be played on Nine during the days where Cricket take-over.
HD? Kiwis might fly.
Hope channel 9 use GEM if the cricket runs past 6pm, similar to how 7 did it during the Aus Open.
Can’t wait for this. should be a good contest.
Channel 9 spelt the Captain of Australia wrong though, its ‘Clarke’
Shame we no longer have a commentator from the touring nation..I used to like listening to Ian Smith
The weather may not shine for the cricket and Nine, thundery rain is forecast for Thursday. Not looking good.
I hate cricket please ban it off the television. So boring.
And of course, presented in glorious Standard Definition! Disappointing but not unexpected from Nein.
Michael Slater will now host The Cricket Show with inputs from Brett Lee.
And to think that in years past test cricket was seen as a major form of entertainment.
I shudder when i think of those dark and horrible times of a youth wasted.
But will we get to see the Kiwis in HD? LOL
Yawn.
Bring on the big bash. Fox Sports know how to cover cricket. A shame they don’t do all the cricket. I would watch alot more if they did.
