Cancelled US soaps may not move to online platform

Plans for axed US Soaps One Life to Live and All My Children to relive again in new online episodes have been halted indefinitely.

US soapie fans rejoiced when their axed Soaps One Life to Live and All My Children were set to relive again in new online episodes, but Prospect Park’s ambitious plan has been halted indefinitely.

The move had proven difficult as Prospect Park and the various guilds associated with transitioning the series to the Web struggle to come to terms.

Prospect Park’s Rich Frank and Jeff Kwatinez said in a statement, “After five months of negotiations with various guilds, hundreds of presentations to potential financial and technology partners, and a hope that we could pioneer a new network for the future, it is with great disappointment that we are suspending our aspirations to revive One Life to Live and All My Children via online distribution.

“It is now becoming clear that mounting issues make our ability to meet our deadlines to get OLTL on the air in a reasonable time period following its January 13, 2012 ABC finale impossible.”

“In the end, the constraints of the current marketplace, including the evolution and impact of new media on our industry simply proved too great a match for even our passion.”

They hope to see the plans realised, but those prospects don’t sound too promising for Prospect Park or soapie fans.

Not all cast members signed on to the online continuation of All My Children.

ABC officially canceled the the two soaps in April after CBS’ long-running The Guiding Light, As the World Turns and NBC’s Passions were axed.

  1. Alot of these soaps could have taken Bold and the Beautiful’s lead and just become a half hour show. That way the show wouldn’t be filled with round the bend time wasting dialogue and the fans could have watched 2 in the time of 1..

even the people I assume who are home don’t have 2-3 hours per day to commit to soap operas the way they did 20 years ago..

  2. The only daytime soap I watched was Days but gave up because of the dreadful writing in the early 2000’s. The show wasn’t bad from the late 70’s through the 90’s.
Not great at times but watchable. I feel for the fans who loved these soaps, OLTL and AMC.
