Eddie McGuire is confirmed as part of Nine’s Olympics commentary team -and will be heard on Foxtel too.

McGuire will call the opening and closing ceremonies live on Nine

and will also call and present events across Nine and Foxtel.

“It’s going to be an exciting year for me. I’ve had a real spring in my step the past few weeks,” he told the Sunday Herald Sun.

McGuire is expected to call the triathlon and marathon events, which are likely to be broadcast on both Nine and Foxtel. He was recently announced as part of the new FOX Footy team.

Others in the Nine line-up include Ken Sutcliffe and cricket commentator Mark Nicholas, while Giaan Rooney will be part of Nine’s swimming coverage.

  1. Nein’s Olympics will be presented by Wide World of Sports in glorious Standard definition, complete with Big Brother promos.
I’ll not watch Channel Nein’s Olympic Coverage at all, not even the Opening Ceremony. Will watch a replay on Foxtel.

  2. Why? Why employ one of the least-liked personalities Australia-wide to host the biggest sporting event on the planet? Does Nine think Eddie McGuire will attract viewers….bring a sense of authority to the games…inject humour into proceedings…offer intelligent insight into the sports on offer? Have they seen this man on television before? He’s a pest!
After not a single week of ratings success, a year where they were the only network Not to win a Walkley award and a year where the only bright light at the Logies was Karl Stefanovic and Underbelly, surely Nine must realise something is broken.

  3. i will be getting foxtels coverage and watching what ever event is on that eddie isnt commenting on and when the olympics are finsihed can we please leave eddie and karl in londeon so we dont have to put up with them on tv ever again

  4. “The Eddie Olympics”!
That’s what I’d be calling it after reading this. No surprise, because he hosted the Vancouver winter games in Feb 2010. That marked his “everywhere” status.

As for the others, Mark Nicholas is British I think. He had hosted a 7TWO cooking show from Britain. Kenny, he knows London like Wimbledon. Giaan being a former swimmer knows her stuff in that event.

Now “Today in London”. I thought Lisa hosted with Karl? Is Leila a typo or replacing Lisa? Hamish & Andy sound like they’ll be offering a, Roy & HG Nelson type show. They did Olympics on Seven and well.

Good luck Nine. If you had NIne coverage lives, Eddie took two away. He lost the viewer and the “Best olympics coverage ever” tag line. Leaving you with 7. That tag line by the way was used by Nine, when they initially announced their involvement.
