Eddie McGuire is confirmed as part of Nine’s Olympics commentary team -and will be heard on Foxtel too.

McGuire will call the opening and closing ceremonies live on Nine

and will also call and present events across Nine and Foxtel.

“It’s going to be an exciting year for me. I’ve had a real spring in my step the past few weeks,” he told the Sunday Herald Sun.

McGuire is expected to call the triathlon and marathon events, which are likely to be broadcast on both Nine and Foxtel. He was recently announced as part of the new FOX Footy team.

Others in the Nine line-up include Ken Sutcliffe and cricket commentator Mark Nicholas, while Giaan Rooney will be part of Nine’s swimming coverage.

Karl Stefanovic and Leila McKinnon will front Today in London, while Hamish and Andy will also present their show from the UK in the lead-up to the games.

  1. I don’t mind Eddie as he is actually interested in the sport. However I have a really bad feeling about 9s coverage of the Olympics. They have 3 channels and need to use them and not apply for last minute exemptions. Its called foresight and vision….but they aint got it

  4. Eddie everywhere strikes again. Not saying he is stupid or talentless, but he does annoy a lot of people. his smugness and over exposure a few years ago don’t help.

  5. @ David from Melbourne, how dare you suggest that Eddie is relatively uneducated, and what difference does it make whether he is from Broadmeadows or Toorak ( where he now lives ). As a journalist, he has completed a University Degree, how much more educated do you want the man to be. I’m not a huge fan of Channel 9, but I think Eddie does a good job and cops far too much criticism, especially on this site.

  10. Meanwhile on GEM more repeats of SD 4×3 Golden Girls and Murder She Wrote in HD upconverted glory. Not to mention Psychic TV, whilst the Olympics remain mostly on delay in SD.

  11. For God’s sake, leave the man alone. I’m sure you would all do a much better job and channel 9 are crazy for not hiring you and instead hiring someone with about 30 years experience.

  17. I heard him commentating on a the Masters Golf last weekend and just turned it straight off. Stick to crappy game shows and leave the sport to the sport team.

  19. Oh No! Eddie is a realatively uneducated boy from Broadmeadows who has the media and Ch. 9 completely conned. He was dreadful as an AFL commentator out of his depth on the recent President’s Cup Golf and hopeless at commentating on every other sporting event he has been associated with. The Footy Show was his only success. He thinks he can “wing” anything with seemingly no research.
    What an ego and why do you keep inflicting him on us Channel 9?

  21. Gee that’s a surprise!!! I was kind of hoping that he wouldn’t be but channel 9 are pretty limited for choices. Why are they going for a Karl and Leila duo for Today though! Lisa is the only reason that show rates at all!! Leila and Karl are a disgrace to the industry.

  23. I will be watching Foxtel when the olympics are on. They have about 10 dedicated channels so you can watch what you want, when you want rarther than rushing through every olympic sport within 5 minutes.
