Flight of the Conchords want a movie

Flight of the Conchords' Bret McKenzie teases with talk of a feature and everyone gets (overly) excited.

Just one sentence, and suddenly there’s a feature film in the pipeline? Maybe…. maybe not.

Flight of the Conchords‘ Bret McKenzie, who appears in the new Muppets movie, was asked in an interview about a possible Conchords feature.

“We’re gonna try and do a movie,” he told the Hollywood Reporter. “We just need a story.”

And with that suddenly we have stories emerging left, right and centre that the show is headed for the big screen.

Would I love to see a Conchords feature? Sure. Would I pay good money for it at the box office? Hmm -maybe if it was Tight-A*se Tuesday….

They would definitely have enough of a following in the US for an indie flick, but I’m not calling Gold Class just yet.

“I’m gonna go back to New Zealand tomorrow, maybe film it next week. And then edit it the week after,” McKenzie joked.  “I don’t know how familiar you are with movies, but there’s a lot of behind the scenes stuff that could take one or two weeks. Probably in about a month we’ll have a premiere.”

  1. Here’s a quick story idea!
Someone pawns a ring in Dave’s shop…the boys have to return the ring to it’s rightful owner in middle earth (ie NZ)….Peter Jackson maybe?
To get back to NZ they’ve got to raise some funds….by performing their biggest ever gig….cue Murray antics.

  2. This could be gold as long as they don’t re-hash their old material and as long as it’s not just three episodes of the tv show sewn together. Season 2 was a really obvious struggle and they did well to quit while they were ahead…. Just!
Oh, and fingers crossed Arj makes the cut too…

  3. It’s a great show. I love Mel’s obsession with them and Brett’s just adoralbe. Not sure if it could pull-off a feature, but I’d still go to see it.
