Fancy yourself as a budding sketch comedy writer?
Some familiar faces have announced a contest for sketch comedy material for their new online venture with the winning sketch will be produced by them, together with a small cash prize.
The creators of Review with Myles Barlow have launched Jungleboys.tv to experiment with new material that doesn’t fit with their current slate of TV work and that is free from network approval.
The site launches with an exclusive new sketch show The Elegant Gentleman’s Guide to Knife Fighting.
“We feel that there is a lot of undiscovered and really funny talent out there who aren’t in the industry and we’re keen to provide an accessible outlet,” says Executive Producer, Jason Burrows.
To submit an idea you must describe your sketch in 100 words or less. The site is asking for visitors to vote and the winner will get their sketch produced with a professional cast and crew. The prime criteria for selecting a winner will be the number of votes, comedic potential, production logistics and budget.
A small cash prize of $500 will also go to the winner and $250 will go to the two runners up.
“The great thing about online is that we have a direct connection with our viewers and we can upload clips very fast and freely”, says Trent O’Donnell (Review with Myles Barlow, The Chaser’s War on Everything, Laid, Woodley).
“The Elegant Gentleman’s Guide to Knife Fighting is a different kind of sketch comedy. We’ve gone for naturalistic and subtle comedic performances compared to zany,” O’Donnell continues.
“We didn’t feel that there was a comedy site suitable for this material, so it’s great to be producing and curating this site, which allows us to experiment with new stuff, but also to showcase other comedy we like,” adds Phil Lloyd (Review with Myles Barlow, At Home with Julia).
O’Donnell, Lloyd and Burrows will also produce a new comedy series for ABC in 2012, This Christmas.

@Nathan – too fanciful. No-one would buy it, even in a sketch show.
I’ve got this idea for a sketch where Tony Abbott become PM of Australia.
I’ve got this idea for a comedy sketch about Julia Gillard who becomes Prime Minister of Australia…..
………………..
I have an idea for this sketch about Julia Gillard and Tim Mathieson? Could that go anywhere? Maybe someone ask Phil?
