This weekend SBS ONE’s Living Black presents a special program from New York City as Karla Grant follows the journey of 11 Aboriginal runners competing in the New York Marathon.

A second US-hosted episode will follow a week later.

New York Marathon: This year for the first time four Indigenous women will run in the prestigious New York Marathon as part of the program initiated by Australian Olympic great Rob de Castella.

Building on last year’s debut by the boys, the girls are now making history and Karla travels all the way to New York City to map their record breaking journey.

Also on this week’s program:
There will be a musical performance by Campbelltown teenager Nellie Dargan, who returns to Living Black by popular demand.

Hub of Dispute: In the Kimberley region in Western Australia the proposed gas hub continues to divide the local community.

In part two of Allan Clarke’s report on this explosive issue he analyses the politics behind the multi-billion dollar project.

Torres Strait Mission: A group of New Caledonians have just completed an historic visit to the Torres Strait islands.

Their journey has reconnected families and descendants of missionaries who brought Christianity to the region in the late 19th century. Stefan Armbruster was on Erub for this remarkable family reunion.

Aussie Rules Africa: An Australian Rules outreach to Mozambique has changed the lives of some young Aboriginal footballers. Suheil Damouney reports on their African odyssey, which transformed a footy trip into a cultural journey.
