It’s not an optimistic outlook for the US adaptation of Prime Suspect with NBC set to wrap production at the end of the month.
This week the remake was left off NBC’s midseason schedule, to be replaced by The Firm. In its Thursday night slot in the US it has been consistently in last-place against The Mentalist and Private Practice.
The drama, which stars Maria Bello, isn’t officially cancelled with a network spokesperson conceding NBC is still “considering their options” but the likelihood of resuming after its 13-episode order now seems like a long shot.
Nine has been fast-tracking the series in Australia which, like Charlie’s Angels, may ultimately prove to have been a smart decision. Trying to launch these shows in February when they have already struggled in the US is risky business.
Meanwhile Community was also missing from NBC’s mid-season line-up, but will return at a date that has yet to be determined.

how many eps did Nine air? cause they might as well burn it off during summer.
Darn. Because basically, it’s the only thing on Channel 9 that I watch and so far they Didn’t seem to be making a hash of it at this end. Unlike everything else I’ve tried watching on Channel 9 in the last decade.
Yet another crime procedural bites the dust. No surprise at all here
Ah, the National Basket Case, NBC’s schedule is beyond tragic, prime suspect wouldn’t have made it past week 3 on any other network.
Absolutely love this show and the main actress (for the life of me I can’t remember her name!). Going up against CBS and ABC’s long running and hugely popular shows is just unfortunate. If it instead went up against say CBS’s CSI: NY it would have got higher viewer share.
It’s rubbish anyway.
That stupid hat!
It’s not that bad of a show, but to be honest it is hard to see much similarity between this and the original beyond involving a female cop. Tennison was a senior officer commanding a large ad-hoc Major Incident Team in a location where murder is still reasonably uncommon. Timoney is a regular homicide cop in a very different situation.
Figures the one new ‘cop’ show I like looks to be facing the axe.
I’m more worried about Community, I hope it returns from being benched. Also Parenthood will only have 18 ep for S3 (not the usual 22) and ends it’s season Feb 28, will it return in September with S4?
Parenthood is one of the best family shows out there, consistently getting great demo ratings but I think like Brothers & Sisters it’s hampered by a large and potentially expensive cast.
If it happens I hope that means we’ll be able to see Kirk Acevedo as Charlie Francis from Over There in Fringe. Although I’ve said it before.
It was a bad decision of Nein to run the original on GEM just before this aired. The original is still very potent, the new version impotent.
Not surprising. It was a travesty of the original. Helen Mirren should feel insulted.
NBC- The Channel 10 of America.
