Nine News bulletin avoids legal breach

Nine News viewers in Regional Victoria would have been a bit surprised to be watching Peter Overton’s Sydney News rather than Peter Hitchener’s Melbourne bulletin on Wednesday.

But there was no Playout error at hand.

WIN was forced to play the Sydney bulletin for legal reasons.

The Melbourne bulletin covered a story on a legal case currently before New South Wales courts. The WIN signal in Regional Victoria also spills across the border which could have placed the broadcaster in contempt of court.

So it played the Sydney bulletin instead.

Recently 6:30 with George Negus was unable to screen vision of a story in Tasmania for legal reasons.
