Nine News to cover Thorpedo announcement

Ian Thorpe and Libby Trickett will announce the details of their return to the pool live from Singapore today.

FOX Sports may have live and exclusive coverage of the his return to the pool tomorrow, but this afternoon Nine has Ian Thorpe and Libby Trickett in a Nine News special hosted by Peter Overton.

Both will announce the details of their return to the pool live from Singapore.

Nine News reporter Damian Ryan will be on location in Singapore with the two great Aussie swimmers while Olympian Giaan Rooney will be on hand in Melbourne to provide expert commentary.

Thorpe and Trickett are scheduled to swim the first race of their comebacks at the FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cup in Singapore on Friday as they step up their campaign to compete at the 2012 London Olympics.

Ian “Thorpedo” Thorpe made a huge splash at his first Olympics in Sydney in 2000. Throughout his brilliant career he has broken 22 world records and won a total of nine Olympic medals.

Libby Trickett is a dual Olympian and one of Australia’s best female swimmers. She currently holds the world record for the fastest women’s short-course 100m freestyle.

Channel Nine will broadcast the 2012 Olympic Games from London next year.

  1. Im confused. Whats the details about. Last night on ch7 news Jim Wilson had an exclusive with Thorpe and said he will race the 100m freestyle and the medly.

  3. I just don’t like athletes announcing their retirement then decided to come back again which obviously casts a doubt in all their future decisions, nevertheless goodluck to both of them, I do not know of any comebacks that became successful though…

  4. Didn’t Libby Trickett already return to the pool in the Summer Swim Series that was shown on ONE earlier this year. Whoever writes these press releases for Nine needs to do some better research.
