Nine sacks Brissy reporter

Updated: Nine News Brisbane has told senior reporter Neil Doorley his contract will not be renewed when it expires in December.

Nine News Brisbane has told senior reporter Neil Doorley his contract will not be renewed when it expires on December 31.

Doorley, who joined Nine Queensland as a police reporter in 1998, was given the option to serve out the rest of his contract or leave earlier.

“Basically I was called in at 10 past 7 and told they wouldn’t be renewing my contract and the reason being it was all part of the changes that are being implemented and that was it,” he told the Courier Mail.

Nine’s Brisbane newsroom this year has been busy making news itself, with its notorious ‘Choppergate’ incident making headlines around the country.

Update: A Nine Spokeswoman tells Brisbane Times the decision not to renew his contract was part of wider newsroom shake-up following the arrival of a new news director to replace former news boss Lee Anderson.

“We wish him all the best, we’re just going through a bit of a restructure but it does not equate to general staff cuts,” the spokeswoman said.

  1. if Neil changes his name he will have great success. his first name and last name don’t run together well at all. a last name starting with D is trouble. same goes for Emma dallimore. bad names
