Former cricketer and AFL player Simon O’Donnell will replace James Brayshaw as host of Nine’s Sunday Footy Show (AFL).
“With a schedule that includes The Footy Show, MMM’s The Rush Hour, calling MMM footy, the 2012 Olympics Games and steering the ship at North Melbourne, James has earned a much needed sleep-in on Sundays,” said Tim Cleary, GTV9’s Head of Content.
“Simon is a great all-rounder who loves his sport, especially footy. He’s the perfect host to keep the team on its toes and it’s great to have him back.”
O’Donnell first joined The Sunday Footy Show in 1993.
“The opportunity arose to work with Nine over the winter months on The Sunday Footy Show and I am thrilled to be rejoining the team in its milestone year,” he said.
Joining O’Donnell are new recruit Matthew Lloyd, regulars Billy Brownless, Shane Crawford, Nathan Brown and resident medico Dr Peter Larkins.
O’Donnell will also step down from hosting The Cricket Show but remains a member of Nine’s Spring Carnival broadcasting team.
“It’s been a great ride for the past 15 years, but with my private horse racing business commitments it’s impossible to work through summer and winter. So now seems like the right time to tackle a new challenge,” he said.

How can we watch this show in QLD?
Bring Eddie McGuire back to The Footy Show! He’s a very great personality of both Channel Nine and Collingwood. AFL fans are fed up with Gary Lyon and James Brayshaw, especially with the former’s famous stretcher, so now’s the good time to have Eddie back to The Footy Show next year to coincide with the expanded AFL team line up, which includes the Gold Coast Suns and the GWS Giants. Oh, by the way, don’t forget to bring back Trevor Marmalade too.
Now if they replace him for Thursday night show,
Can’t stand the way he laugh’s @ everything during AFL Footy Show.
Just let Gary & Sam host it.
Too Many in Com Box anyway, at least the workload will spread out.
Has been a very good host of Cricket show during the lunch breaks over the years, also sad to see him go.
Welcome to Sunday Mornings SImon O’Donnell

AFL – Who Cares?
@Quinch … Shane Warne…?
Quite possibly one of the most vanilla person ever put on tv
What Quich said – sad to see Simon leave his post at The Cricket Show.
I’m suprise Eddie McGuire didn’t put his hand up to do the sunday footy show.

It’s sad to see him go from the cricket show, he was always a good host during the lunch break, wonder who will replace him.
