ABC News 24 adds Al Jazeera Newshour
ABC News24 is launching live simulcasts of Al Jazeera Newshour from Sunday.

ABC News24 is launching live simulcasts of Al Jazeera Newshour beginning at 5.00am (AEDT) this Sunday, 4th December.
Newshour is the flagship daily news program of international English-language news channel Al Jazeera, which broadcasts from the Middle East.
ABC News24 will be simulcasting the two premier editions of the program in overnight broadcasts seven days a week, at 2.00am and 5.00am (AEDT).
Al Jazeera Newshour provides live, breaking and in-depth news from Asia, Africa, Europe and the Americas drawing on the strength of the Al Jazeera worldwide network.
“The Al Jazeera Newshour is another welcome addition to the ABC News24 schedule, giving viewers access to the most up-to-date news from around the world,” said ABC News24 Controller Gaven Morris.
The ABC News24 overnight schedule will be:
01:00 – 01:30: BBC News
02:00 – 03:00: Al Jazeera Newshour
03:00 – 03:30: BBC News
05:00 – 06:00: Al Jazeera Newshour
Al Jazeera channel is currently available in Australia on Austar while an Al Jazeera News bulletin also screens at 3:30 weekdays on SBS ONE.

How is it a bit over the top?
They have nothing else to show at that time as their newsroom is unstaffed through the early hours of the morning.
Would you rather have live news from Al Jazeera for an hour or have an AJ bulletin cut-off half-way through to show a five-hour-old repeat of Lateline or a five-year-old repeat of Australian Story?
Good on the ABC for providing substantial news coverage from one of the world’s finest news organisations.
Bit over the top!!! Half an hour would’ve been better.
Sounds great! But I wonder whether this is just summer filler while Lateline & state-based 7:30’s are on hiatus?
PS: ABC News For Australia Network also gets a run at 1:30am (AEDT) which we haven’t seen since last summer.
…and that’s now three FTA channels in Sydney that air AJE bulletins (FYI, SBS ONE and TVS are the other two stations)
Al Jazeera news also on TVS in Sydney at 10pm weeknights. Nice to have that choice.
Don’t see what the special big deal is about this program.
This is great news. AJI is carried on FTA stations in NZ and Fiji, also on C31. A superior unbiased news service. Hope ABC24 carries some of their other programming such as Witness from time to time.
