Christmas wish for Molly

Molly Meldrum will spend Christmas Day under heavy sedation, but friends and family are optimistic about his slow progress.

“Christmas Day, unfortunately for Molly, probably isn’t going to be dramatically different (to recent days),” manage Mark Klemens said.

“Doctors don’t know when he’s likely to come out of this sedation and I know they are reducing (sedation) levels, but they do it very carefully.

“Occasionally he opens his eyes and closes them, but it’s really just a minor reaction – he’s not particularly responding to anything.

“All we are being told it’s going to plan and things are progressing as you would expect them to,” Mr Klemens said.

Yesterday his brother Brian wrote a piece for News Limited, saying: “It has been staggering, and for his family and friends quite a humbling experience.

“Reading all of the hundreds of e-mail, Facebook and Twitter messages, naturally, has proved impossible. But of those I have read there seems to be an underlying theme.

“The common definition of Molly would be that he is a celebrity, an icon of the music industry, the pop guru. But that, I believe, is not how the general public see him.

“I think they liken him to the friendly, slightly cracked (now really cracked) bloke who lives around the corner, the person you might stop to have a chat with in the supermarket, or in a corner of the pub.

“In other words, “one of us”.

Get well Molly!
