David Campbell to join Sonia Kruger for Mornings?

Singer David Campbell has been a guest host on The Morning Show but now he may be a regular on the opposition.

Today’s rumour mill speculates that singer David Campbell will join Sonia Kruger on Nine’s upcoming Mornings programme.

Campbell has been a frequent guest host on Seven’s Morning Show.

Nine has been expected to announce a male co-host to join Kruger, ever since it was clear she got the gig. The network is understood to be moving away from the solo hosting of Kerri-Anne Kennerley to a duo not dissimilar to Larry Emdur and Kylie Gillies.

Of course, male and female hosts have been popular in the genre for years (Ernie & Denise anyone?).

A Nine spokesman could not “confirm or deny” the rumour while another Seven insider told the Daily Telegraph: “Seven is the star factory of 2011. We make them, and they take them.”

  1. Ernie and Denise? Dates back a lot further than that 🙂 In Melbourne at least, Roy Hampson and Katrina Pye were doing the morning show together on Channel 0 in the 1960s although Melbourne viewers may more likely remember Roy Hampson with Annette Allison on Everyday which became Good Morning Melbourne in the 1980s.

As for Seven’s claim of being “the star factory” I think Seven has pinched its fair share of talent (both on and off screen) from other networks too over the years, and not always for the better either.

  2. well now Chrissie has left ”The Circle”, I hope the new channel 9 show rocks so the Morning Show has some serious competition….cause with Chrissie gone..the Circle will go down the drain…fast.

  3. Moanique, it’s probably more about the fact that there is more opportunity at Channel Nine. Seven seems to have everything so locked down and working that there wouldn’t be much room for new job opportunities. Also no offence to David, but are Seven really dumb enough to split up Larry and Kylie? In my opinion, that partnership has been just as successful as the partnership of Kochie and Mel.

  4. It amazes me that any talent would move from the very successful Seven Network to the struggling Nine Network. I suppose it worked for Shelley Craft, she has done quite well. In the past though, it seemed a common practice for personalities to leave Nine and go to Seven.

  5. “Seven is the star factory of 2011. We make them, and they take them.” Wow what an arrogant comment when you consider Seven pilfered Nine to turn themselves around……..Do the names Leckie, Meaken etc ring a bell??

  6. while another Seven insider told the Daily Telegraph: “Seven is the star factory of 2011. We make them, and they take them.”…and channel 7 should know that…just look at their Sydney newsroom…more Channel 9 people there than anything….

  7. David Campbell is a great fill in on The Morning Show, I think it would be a good gig for him. But to take it up he would have to wind back his music career, so I guess it would depend on what he wants to do more … television or music.

  8. He has grown on me . Never liked him now I kinda think his okay.

As for the comment about 7 being the star factory , well no other network is making stars because they can’t even make a ratings winner lol. 7 will be number 1 for a decade more
