iView joins Xbox Live

ABC iView viewers using Kinect for Xbox 360 will be able to search, browse and select programs using their voice or waving their hand.

Following confirmation in October it was coming, ABC iView became available on the Xbox Live platform as of yesterday.

Through Kinect for Xbox 360, ABC iView will available to search, browse and select programs with viewers simply using their voice or waving their hand.

Director of ABC Television, Kim Dalton says “We have a wonderful slate of programming for 2012, and through ABC iView, it will be the most accessible content in the country.

“ABC TV has led the way in delivering content across an array of platforms and devices and now our audience will have greater access to iView streamed into their own homes, on their own TV screens available to watch whenever they want.”

The service is subscription free but requires an annual XBox Live membership to view content along with a recommended minimum broadband speed of 1.5MB.

  1. It’s good to see this being offered to those with the free/silver accounts rather than just being locked behind the paid/gold accounts, but I can’t seem to figure out if using it counts on your download quota for those who are currently able to watch iview without affecting their download usage on the iview website.

  2. It’s great to see the ABC continuing to be on the forefront of digital media.

It’s a shame the Xbox itself has inbuilt fans that are so loud, they are completely distracting. I’ll stick with the PS3 version.
