Marieke Hardy target of hate campaign

Writer Marieke Hardy has apologised for incorrectly naming the author of online hate campaign directed at her.

First Tuesday Book Club panellist and writer of Laid, Marieke Hardy, has been the target of an online hate campaign by an anonymous blogger.

But in attempting to shut down the blog, she named the wrong person as author, which has since resulted in a confidential legal settlement.

On her official website, Hardy apologised, “For over five years I have been the victim of a hate blog against me. On 9 November 2011 I incorrectly identified Joshua Meggitt on this site as the man responsible for writing that blog. I accept that Joshua is not the writer and I sincerely apologise to him and his family for any upset caused.”

Meggitt wrote a post in June on his own blog that was critical of Hardy and other panellists on First Tuesday Book Club. It was later deleted.

Hardy’s ”name and shame” post was widely reported in Australia and internationally after she posted a link on Twitter.

The blog that has been targetting Hardy is extreme in its language and intent and ripe for a lawsuit of its own. As I don’t wish to give it any oxygen I’ve decided to close Comments on this occasion.
