Carols by Candlelight has given the Nine Network a perfect Christmas present: it has finally won the week’s ratings.

The annual Carols event has broken the drought for Nine -its first win in Total People since mid-January.

Carols by Candlelight averaged an audience of 1.66m viewers, easily the week’s top show, and Nine Network’s share for the evening was a whopping 47.6%.

That pushed Nine over the finish line for the week with 30.4% to Seven 26.8%, TEN 18.6%, ABC 17.5% and SBS 6.8%.

In Primary Channels Nine won with 21.3% over Seven 19.3%, ABC1 12.6%, TEN 12.3%, and SBS ONE 5.6%.

GO! was first in Multichannels with 5.3% followed by 7TWO and ELEVEN (both 3.9%), GEM 3.8%, 7mate 3.5%, ABC2 2.9%, ONE 2.4%, SBS TWO 1.2%, ABC News 24 1.1% and ABC3 0.9%.

Nine again took all three demos 16-39, 18-49 and 25-54.

Nine won Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane but Adelaide and Perth again stayed true to Seven.

Nine was first on Sunday, Monday, Thursday and Saturday with Seven winning Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. ABC beat TEN on Sunday and Wednesday.

After Seven’s annihilation of 2011 ratings Nine now has three earlier wins in January and one in December.

There is one more week of 2011 ratings to go.

Merry Xmas! Now go eat some pudding.

  1. Good to see Nine finally win a ”ratings week” – a shame it was outside the ratings season. Nine may win this week too, thanks to it’s NYE coverage, and (possibly) with the cricket lead-in to Nine news.

  2. Argh – 2012 – Nine will change its schedule – it will repeat @ 7pm weeknights a 1/2 hour snippet of the carols instead of murdering big bang.

    Or.

They will arrange with Sidney Myer Trust to get the bowl refurbished by 10 unknown couples and screen it as The Block Does The Bowl.

Mind you – I cant see Humphrey B. Bear making any appearances either..

I see a lot of comments over the year, how Ch 7 appears to be quite smug in their ratings successess, but you must admit they went the hard slog and didnt really screw up their schedule like the buffoons in the Ch 9 programming department. The latter is the story of the goose that laid the golden egg..

finally remember – the arrogance of Ch 9 ” the One, & Still the One” for a very large number of years.

Anyhow – enough prattle – merry Xmas to David and to the supporters of his website.

  3. It was inevitable but its too little too late. Its a non-ratings period and when they had their chances they blew it. They couldn’t do it. Congrats to Nine but yeah thats what i think.
