Sacked SKY News presenter John Mangos has been given a fresh start on Seven News, popping up recently to read the 4:30 News.
Mangos lost his long-term job with the Pay TV provider after a misfired gag was considered too racist. Coming at a sensitive time of broadcaster deals with China and the Australia Network tender, it was a reminder that timing is everything in comedy.
Some considered SKY’s response as an over-reaction, given Mangos later apologised for the remarks.
A Seven spokesperson confirmed to TV Tonight that he is currently doing some summer shifts.
Mangos was also presenting for SBS in September.

Good to see John, Back on TV …he is a real professional and one of the few reasons I watched SKY….. sadly we wont see him in NZ on chanel 7 but good luck and biggest best wishes to him for the future.
@ Evan and Hamish is doing a great job.
In Sydney, Hamish McDonald is currently doing the 5PM news bulletins on Channel 10.
Great to see John back on tv. Would have liked to see him replace Bill Woods on Ten. He’d be great with Sandra Sully. Watching Woods is like watching an undertaker. Unforunately Ten News at the moment is a shamozzle. They need to return to an hour format and bring back the Late News. I’m a big Sandra Sully fan but even I’m struggling to sit threw an hour and a half of news.
P.S Debroah night is soooooo dull. Bad choice 9
He started on Ch7 on the 12th (for the record)
This left a very sour taste in my mouth when SKY sacked him over his (inappropriate but not lethal comment).
His reputation deserves to be treated from all those years not 10 seconds.
Anyway, another example why new readers should stick to the auto queue.
Good work SeVEn
Is John Melbourne or Sydney based? I hear Ten Melbourne is lacking male fill in readers.
I wish people would stop blaming Chris Bath for Seven Sydney’s woes. It is more likely poor story selection, Mark Riley, Tony Squires and Adam Walters that are the problems.
I like John, His a great reader. I do not like Talitha Cummins though, she frustrates me, Would much rather John Mangos!.
I do agree with comments below though, seven need a lot better Graphics and a Much better backdrop.
great to see
He reminds me of an older Ricardo
Oh give the 4:30 to Talitha Cummins – get some better graphics, news reports and a backdrop and 4:30 is set to rock! Otherwise 7NEWS is a catastrophe under Fergo. Bring back Chris!
Great to see John & Deborah Knight back. Shame DK is on 9 as it is my least viewed station. John would have fitted in to the 10 bulletin at 5 quite nicely. Ten’s news is an absolute shambles at the moment. 7 would be mad to let John go after summer. I guess i have a soft spot for him as he was such a great straight man for Graham Kennedy back on Coast To Coast. Aah the good old days.
Where are the regulars like Samantha Armytage, Edwina Bartholomew, Talitha Cummins etc? Seven network have some very good news readers but, John Mangos?
he has also been on Sunrise as a guest giving opinions etc
Judging by the radio ads for 7 (Sydney) News, Chris Bath is staying put.
Mark Ferguson’s ratings in the 6pm spot don’t appear to have made much of an impact against 9’s Sydney news – 7’s still trailing behind the majority of the time.
Wonder if Mangos might be considered the ‘friendly male face of authority’ that’s been missing since Ian left…?
Ms Bath will hate me for that!
For the life of me I can’t remember if this guy is racist or not. Something about him doesn’t sit right though
