TEN eyeing State of Origin bid

More speculation today that NRL rights will be targetted by all three commercial Free to Air networks, driving their value up.

More speculation today that NRL rights will be targetted by all three commercial Free to Air networks with TEN rumoured to be eyeing the State of Origin matches.

Those moves have been tipped ever since TEN ended its 10 year AFL deal. Their interest could also help drive up the asking price of the next broadcasting rights.

NRL chief executive David Gallop has previously said club matches, Test and Origin games could be sold separately.

Seven is also keen for NRL.

Last February Tim Worner, Seven’s Director of Programming & Production told TV Tonight, “I just think there’s so much that Seven could do with that sport.”

Nine has a first and last option on the next five-year deal.

  1. @Joe- how is Channel TEN broke when they are not because they get money by people watching it in primetime e.g. MotoGP, F1, NFL. We all know that Channel Nine is broke after next year they won’t be broke due to BB and London 2012. Channel Seven is even more broke than TEN or Nine. $1.253B on AFL 2012-2016

  2. I rather if Ten gets the rightz to the whole NRL games it’ll be great than the train wreck schedule the have now (Ten is beginning to be like NBC) which means they can schedule games on Friday and Saturday afternoon and nights plus Sunday afternoon and Monday nights. It’ll help Ten rating up to over a million.

  3. Ten would want both Friday and Saturday night matches and also Monday night ones for One, but since sport and movies is what drives pay TV, Foxtel have deeper pockets, plus Lachlan and Packer both have financial stakes in Foxtel, so that won’t happen.
