Big Brother back to Dreamworld

Staff facilities have begun being reassembled in readiness for work on Big Brother 2012.

Premier Anna Bligh (herself a one-time Reality TV contestant) will be happy to hear that Big Brother is returning to Dreamworld.

News that staff facilities had begun being reassembled was leaked by Peter Ford via Twitter -his second scoop tweet in as many days.

The Reality series was staged at the Gold Coast site for its entire run on TEN, proving a successful mix of production and live eviction facilities. Its locale also ensured housemates were prone to wearing less and showing off their bods in the Queensland sun.

Bligh has been pushing for the show’s return, last year telling media: “If Big Brother‘s return is a serious prospect, my Government will be doing everything we can to bring the program back home to the Gold Coast.”

The Dreamworld location will rule out other sites tipped to be in contention: Movie World, FOX Studios and Luna Park.

It’s yet to be confirmed if the former House will be reconstructed, given the compound site has been under consideration as part of a Coomera Town Centre development. The $400 million Westfield project, to be built adjacent to the nearby railway station, has seen many delays. On the weekend the Gold Coast Bulletin reported a start date “was still some time away.”

In 2008 Dreamworld made the original Big Brother House available for rent for themed party nights. Including the Big Brother character voice and a security guard to evict guests, it came at a cool $2200 a day.

Big Brother: Secrets, to be hosted by Sonia Kruger, will air on Nine in August following the Olympics.

Auditions have not yet been announced but start getting your “secret” ready if you plan on fronting up.

  1. @SEDI-yeppers channel 5 r doing a splendid job and lovin’ the house. frankie cocozza and the twins can go-all3 r lame. as is andrew. love the rest specially gareth(and his torso) and denise. r u watching the daily show?

is anyone watching the daily show?

  2. Australian made TV has taken a battering with the high Australian dollar making imported programs very cheap to buy. So any high value first run Australian content is surely a good thing for the local industry and jobs.

Back in the day, I did not like BB much but I loved the online content. In just three years (2006-2008) of the show being on Channel 10, I posted to the online forums 8170 times with a new online moniker with every season.

BB on Channel 9 needs a very good online presence for the show to work.

  3. @marius j – oh its great! Channel 5 have stepped it up this year! (As long as Andrew Stone doesnt win Im happy – but go Natalie!!)

@robert – Dead Set was dead set amazing. An Incredible series that captured Big Brother and horror so well! Davina as a zombie – wonderful!!

  4. The problem I can see here will be the non-stop ads for this that Nine will air during the Olympics. I can already see them driving everyone insane!

  5. It appears that Nine have ditched the Secrets tagline from the show. The original promo reel for 2012 has the secrets, but the newer versions just show Big Brother.

    1. Steve: Unfair. It’s other media that has re-reported his scoops. At least some of us acknowledged the source.

Juanet: I think you are confusing a $400m commercial development with a BB house. Nowhere have I reported the show is a one-off.

  6. That is fantastic news and updates. See i new it that Bliegh would want to bring back Big brother show here at the goldcoast. But most people never believed me. If only you watch the news more closely 🙂 I can’t belive the house of big brother construction will cost 400 million dollars.. is that correct ? because down the road from me theres a castle and its huge and it cost 2 million dollars. So 400 millon is alot of money now days. With that you could end up building the russian federation sqaure sort of to speak.

You say the show will be a one off… I believe if this is correct.. It pretty much means the big brother show will be base here this year follow by having a fair go in nsw or victoria anywhere wheres a theme park is located. Like the wonderland sort of to speak. How ever i hope this is not a one off show… Considering spending 400 million dollars to just built a house that yet is not even big. When i visit the house after the show.. in reality in person the house truely didn’t looked anything a million bucks and sure wasn’t big.

The trick was that the cameras made it look wide and big as seen on tv. But in person if you went to had a looked at the house you will qiuickly say (it looks so small) but on tv it looks so Big.

  7. So, Channel Nine (which has huge debts that may prove very difficult to pay back when they fall due on February 7th) is desperately trying to revive this zombie production. And when do they plan to start broadcasting? Oh, sometime after their bank debt falls due.

Yep, who else thinks this be Channel Nine’s Last Hurrah?

  8. The idea of a state government, even a Queensland state government, pushing for the return of this piece of deadheaded trash is simply embarrassing to all concerned. They are obviously more desperate for approval than anyone could have imagined. Stay classy Queensland.

The day this show ended was the most hopeful day in Australian TV for many years. Trust Nine to revive it, they have no sense and no shame either.

  9. What about daylight saving when it starts on Oct 7, that’s why Ten aired in late April to July.
I am guessing Big Brother will start around Sun 19 Aug and no way can it be finished by Oct 7.

  10. David, the picture is actually of the auditorium used for eviction night. The house it a little further north down a path. But it is good that they are reusing the location, make the most sense as they have the facilties they need, it just needs a little renovation and a new house built withing the studio/shed they use.
