ELEVEN turns 1

Happy birthday to ELEVEN. The joint venture between TEN and CBS has had a strong twelve months.

ELEVEN is one year old today.

The joint venture between TEN and CBS has had a strong twelve months, making strong in-roads especially against GO!

It is frequently amongst the top 3 multichannels for the week.

Network TEN Head of Programming, Beverley McGarvey, said about ELEVEN: “Channel ELEVEN ended the survey year significantly ahead of our closest competitors, and in 2012 we plan on going from strength to strength. We’re looking into some fresh ideas to bring to the table, as well as bringing back some of the best TV the US has to offer.”

To mark the occasion, Couch Time will have a giant cake this afternoon and tonight there’s a new episode of The Simpsons. ELEVEN is also promising new Neighbours, Wilfred, Futurama, The Cleveland Show, The Office, Nurse Jackie and Top Model this year.

Supernatural, Smallville and Neighbours all returned this week, while the tantalising American Horror Story wraps next week, to be followed by Dexter.

TV Tonight readers voted ELEVEN their preferred multichannel in the recent 2011 TV Tonight Awards by a big margin.

ELEVEN is also producing a new mini-drama Micro Nation, and a new music show co-hosted by Scotty Tweedie is coming to Saturday mornings later this month.

Now, if only they could fix ONE….

  1. Yay, HB 11 (and steve sydney). Definitely a success story. I wonder if anyone at Ten know why? Not watching a lot of 11 right now, altho’ I love Craigy Ferg. Looking fwd to the return of Nurse Jackie, Californication, Wilfred, and Dexter (despite what people say about S5).

@Happy_Aussie – I was going to write that! There has to be more than Cops and Ice Road Truckers, neither of which I watch. Where the hell is Bucket List?

  2. I only watch GO! for TBBT when nothing else is on, that aside I don’t watch it any more. Watch CH11 most nights for Ferguson, just wish it wouldn’t clash with Letterman some nights.

@James – I agree, please leave the 4:3 alone, it’s one thing if they have been re-formated from the original film like Seinfeld and Friends but it was never done with Cheers so just leave it be!

  3. Avv, why would they purposely screw ONE to send viewers to the SEVEN/NINE/Telstra owned Foxtel?
Stretching a 4:3 image to fill a HD screen really annoys me but often it’s the TV settings and the owners seem to like it that way.
Last year ELEVEN was the only channel in the TEN Network that lived up to the “good third” rule. Perhaps sticking to the target demographic is paying off.

  4. Happy Birthday 11.
Definitely the best multichannel, and probably the most watched channel in our house. Love CraigyFergy – happy to record a week of those and overdose on Geoff. American Horror Story has been a fantastic addition too. (And Dexter back, yay!)

  5. i prob watch more 11 than any other channel… now if Craig Ferguson could come and do a week of shows out here…that would be awesome… and maybe they could get into bed with CBS for ONE as well

  6. I really don’t see the huge positive others see in Eleven. It is a joint venture, has a 5 day a week Australian soap on and still can’t be the number one multichannel. Heartbeat gets higher numbers than Neighbours. 7two does better overall by playing repeats of UK shows. GO! does better than Eleven too.

  7. Happy 1st birthday Eleven! May the channel have many more birthdays to come! Now just show Ringer in a decent timeslot and I’ll be happy.
I also would like to wish TV Tonight a happy belated birthday!

  8. Yes i definetly agree that 11 (Eleven) has been a succes for Network Ten Holdings, which is more than i and many other people can say about the rest of the property within the stable i dont need to mention them. Personally i will not watch the main channel much or the pathetic imitation for a male orientated channel they have. I will however watch more of 11 untill they stuff that up. I have really enjoyed most if not all of the content on 11 over the past 12 months. I like: American Horror story, Sabrina, Wildfred and the Simpsons. I dont mind Dexter but am not a regular viewer of it. However i do have some reservations about the classic Spelling content in the forms of Beverly Hills 90210 and Melrose Place. When are they going to air? i am loving the reruns of Charmed which have recently begun airing at noon. All in all 11 outstanding the rest tragically is in hades.

  9. If only they would leave 4:3 programs as 4:3 and not blown up to try and fill the 16:9 screen. Granted, this does not occur on all 4:3 programs, but does on some as things are being chopped off plus it looks more blurry than it should.

  10. It’s also my birthday today so I’ll just pretend that cake on couch time is for me too..

ELEVEN has been the only multi channel I’ve watched the past year with the exception of ABC2 for Graham Norton and Gruen repeats. Oh and ONE for Idiot Abroad but yes I agree.. there needs to be a healthier balance on ONE ‘HD’

  11. 11 at least seems to have a clear identity but is still subject to tens strategy of shafting shows that people like including multiple time slots and then pulling them altogether.
