Kyle comments under ACMA investigation

ACMA is investigating the comments made by Kyle Sandilands when he verbally attacked a journalist over a television review.

Kyle Sandilands’ radio comments about a journalists’ review of Kyle and Jackie O’s Night with the Stars will be investigated by the media watchdog.

In December the Seven personality verbally attacked News Ltd. journalist Alison Stephenson a “fat slag” and threatened to “hunt her down.”

The comments caused a public furore and withdrawal of millions in sponsorship to 2DAYFM, following a social media campaign.

Sandilands later apologised for the comments.

The Australian Communications and Media Authority says it has received complaints about the comments and an investigation was recently opened.

“The results of that investigation will be made available in due course,” ACMA acting media manager Blake Murdoch said.

In tomorrow’s Weekend Australian, he tells the newspaper, “The idea that I might get sacked, that’s just ludicrous.

He also notes the Seven TV program that sparked his radio comments wasn’t supposed to go to air. “It was a pilot, and they [the Seven network] said: ‘Let’s give it a go, see what happens’.”

  1. ACMA = useless. What are they gonna do?
    I can see it now……

“ACMA has investigated Kyle Sandilands and found him guilty of breaching regulations for comments he made in 2011. He has been given a warning and was told not to do it again.”

  2. (sigh) Much as the optimist in me would like to think he’ll be raked over the coals, I think ACMA’s response will be akin to a nudge with a wet fish. Now if he was sent around to my place, I could demonstrate to him the repercussions for disrespecting women … 🙂

  3. ACMA really are a lame bunch when it takes over two months to even announce they are launching an investigation. We all know ACMA will come back some time in 2013 and state the Kyle breached broadcasting standards, and hand him a wet bus ticket.
