Molly facing long haul recovery

Molly Meldrum is responding only to basic commands and family advise he has a very long haul ahead of him.

Music guru Molly Meldrum remains in ICU and will be in care for “a considerable amount of time” according to family.

Molly’s manager Mark Klemens denied reports he had been moved out of intensive care, with a decision to be made later.

Meldrum, 65, is “progressing pretty well” from recent spinal surgery but is responding only to basic commands.

“At the moment he’s very disorientated. He’s confused,” brother Brian Meldrum told News Limited.

“Gradually, those things will improve and he’ll start to be aware of his surroundings. He will start to recognise people.

“(But) it’s a very, very long haul ahead of him.

The family does not plan on providing a play-by-play of Molly’s recovery.

Meldrum was due to spend much of January in Phuket working on his autobiography.
