Molly resting after spinal surgery

Family and friends of Molly Meldrum remain cautiously optimistic about his recovery following spinal surgery.

Family and friends of Molly Meldrum remain cautiously optimistic about his recovery following spinal surgery on New Year’s Day.

65 year-old Meldrum was last night “resting comfortably” on a ventilator after two hours of fixation surgery to mend vertebrae, at The Alfred Hospital.

Surgeons were forced to wait until rib injuries had stabilised before they could investigate the seriousness of his spinal injuries.

Meldrum’s brother Brian said ‘The operation was done to help stiffen them up, so that down the track they won’t impact his mobility. I think his mobility will be fine.”

It was hoped that down the track his mobility will be ‘as good as gold.’

“You can’t guarantee outcomes,” he said.

”All things going well, he’ll be in the trauma ward next week, but it’s not something you can dictate. It’s a very long road to recovery.”

The beloved music guru has been under medical care since his accident at home on December 15th.

It is hoped he can be moved out of intensive care and into a trauma ward within days.
