Nine appoints new Director of Communications

Nine has appointed its new Director of Communications and Public Relations in Victoria Buchan, following the departure of Heidi Virtue.

Nine has appointed its new Director of Communications and Public Relations in Victoria Buchan, who currently operates boutique PR company, Lantern Group.

She will replace Heidi Virtue who departed in December to focus on family.

Buchan is well-respected within the industry and comes with a wealth of experience having previously been Director of Communications at the ABC and the Director of Communications during the launch of Fox Studios Australia. Lantern Group has also handled key events including Logie Awards, AFI Awards, ARIA Awards, ASTRA Awards, MTV Awards, Kids Choice Awards, FFC, Pixar, Flickerfest plus Sea Patrol, Rescue and more.

She also worked with Nine during Virtue’s previous maternity leave.

“We are really excited Victoria has agreed to join the Network at the start of what will be a dynamic and very successful year,” said Nine’s Managing Director Jeff Browne.

“Victoria’s experience across the television landscape will provide great leadership within our communications teams and I am very confident she will add an important element to the management team here.”

David Gyngell CEO Nine Entertainment Co. said, “Victoria Buchan is a terrific asset for Nine and I’m delighted she’s joined the Network.

“She’s got the runs on the board over a sustained and very successful career, and she is consequently widely respected at her new home and likewise across the industry.”

Victoria Buchan added, “I’m excited by the chance to join the team at the Nine Network. They are brilliantly placed for 2012 and beyond and I believe it will be a great time to take on the new challenges of such a role.”

Buchan leaves The Lantern Group after 10 years, with another managing director believed to be appointed.

    1. Rob: It’s not from any Nine doc. Heidi Virtue recently had her first child and returned to work not long after. I think it’s reasonable that people can make personal decisions without conspiracy theories getting thrown into the mix, just as Chrissie Swan is similarly wanting to spend time with her new child.
