Renewed: Sherlock

Creators Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss surprise fans by admitting Season Three of Sherlock was actually renewed alongside Season Two.

UK drama series Sherlock has been ‘renewed’ for a third season.

In fact, the renewal happened over a year ago.

Co-creator Steven Moffat has tweeted: “#sherlock Yes of course there’s going to be a third series – it was commissioned at the same time as the second. Gotcha!”

Fellow writer Mark Gatiss also tweeted the same “Gotcha!” news, which had until now been kept quiet.

Martin Freeman, who plays Dr John Watson, recently said he hoped that there would be a third series.

There are again three telemovies in Season Two, which Nine will air from mid-February.

  1. I haven’t seen the last episode but I have seen the Jeremy Brett series as well as read all the official stories. At least the main 56 short stories and 4 novels. So with an episode called The Reichenbach Fall. Well I don’t think that indicates safety. I wonder what the modern take is. I guess we’ll see. Maybe.

  2. I’m glad. Thanks David. I can’t wait for them to be on here I still hope they’ll (Series 2 ) be on a Sunday at 8.30pm. The DVDs/Blu-rays again of Series 2 will be out here March 1 it seems. I wonder what stories they’ll do for Series 3 and I hope it doesn’t take two years . I guess we’ll find out in a while probably a long one . Look forward to Series 2 in the mean time.

  3. That pic of Benedict Cumberbatch is gorgues. I have an audio of him reading John Keats Ode to A Nightingale on on my ipod, his voice is lovely.
I got fed up with waiting for Nine to air the new season of Sherlock so I sought it by other means. It was amazing esp. the last episode :).
