Returning: Better Homes and Gardens

Update: Seven will be amending its earlier programming guide info, to return the show on Friday February 3rd.

Better Homes and Gardens makes its 2012 return next week, in its new permanent timeslot, 7:30pm Thursdays.

While the show has proven indomitable on Friday nights, now it must vacate the slot because Seven secured the AFL rights.

The show could also have worked at 6:30pm Saturdays -but that wouldn’t work for sponsors, who are used to having viewers roll up on the weekend after being motivated to act by the latest home renovation or gardening tip.

There have also been rumours that Nine could reinstate a Friday night lifestyle show with Jamie Durie. Such shows are, after all, a dream for sales departments.

No word if Nine is moving ahead on those plans.

Meanwhile Better Homes and Gardens is back at 7:30pm Thursday February 2nd.

UPDATE: Cancel that. Seven will be amending its earlier programming guide info, to return the show  on Friday February 3rd. Red herring anyone?

  1. @Tassie08 – redfaced at what? My comment is to do with the footy season – here in Melbourne we wont see BH&G at 7.30pm on a friday night for those 25-odd weeks. Thats a true fact. What happens outside of the footy season or in other cities is none of my concern – but when you consider that Melbourne is the bigger TV audience, my post stands.

  2. @DanielW: There’s no way Seven will shift AGT or X Factor to Thursdays. Silly idea – Ten moved SYTCD Australia to Wednesday and Thursday nights and the show dropped to less than 800k and was later canceled.

Seven got the formula of X Factor right with Monday and Tuesday nights last year instead of Sundays and Mondays, and it’s likely they’ll stick with that again. AGT has been rating extremely well since it moved from Sundays to Tuesdays as well

  3. It seems to be plugging in their other programming. Rafters, MKR, H&A. It should be on Tuesday at 7:30 for 1 hour, where it began. And about DIY projects courtesy of the BH&G team. Not DIY projects courtesy of Seven’s celebrities. Also PTTR getting 1.6m+ would benefit BH&G. This show needs a boost in figures.

Move AGT/X-Factor to Thursday, in order to lift Thursdays numbers on Seven. Thursday is a low numbers night for them.

My guess is Seven don’t want Nine to do any lifestyle on Friday. They want them to live NRL, as Seven have AFL.

  4. @Maeve – dear me. Of course it’s not on during the Aust Open. Looks like the old tv week is correct after all… Friday 3rd and 90 minutes – you’ll have to make a choice after all between 7 and 7Two!

  5. @ Whoops…..Freeview online guide says Aust. Open from 7.30PM Friday….and new seried of B&HG starts next week Feb.2nd….if you note what David has written…TV Week is printed ahead of time….cannot show changes really….
An it suits me better….(yes I am old)…..as I usually watch 7TWO…Escape to Country on Fridays.

  6. Seven Perth will show Friday Night AFL on a ‘lesser delay,’ I.e. 7.30 most weeks, and possibly 6.30 when the Eagles or Dockers are playing. Likewise for Adelaide, the usual timeslot will be 7.30 meaning a half hour delay for games played in Melbourne. If the Crows/Power are playing they will go live at 7pm. Sydney/Brisbane get all Friday nights live on 7mate. Remember viewers from all states now have the option to watch Friday night games live on Fox Footy.

  7. That photo of Harry and the seal is priceless!

Considering that older people tend to say in on Friday nights and often shop Thursday nights, this probably isn’t the best idea. Then again they probably wont have set top boxes for 7TWO so it is a bit of a lose-lose scenario.

  8. You’d think BHG will stay at 7.30pm on Fridays in the NSW & QLD markets because the AFL won’t be shown on their primary channel (they are contracturally bound to show it live on 7two into these markets).

  9. I am surprised by this move, especially in Sydney and Brisbane. Why move it in those markets when AFL is on 7mate that night. So if this is the case then what does Seven have planned for the next 6 or so weeks before AFL starts on Friday nights?
