Standing ovation and tears as Spicks and Specks tour ends

Adam Hills couldn't help but get tearful at the wrap party for the Spicks and Specks tour.

Adam Hills couldn’t help but get tearful at the wrap party for the Spicks and Specks tour last night, and who can blame him?

It was the final swansong after a 30-date tour of the country, and the last hurrah for the ABC show after seven years on air.

The final show in Melbourne ended with a standing ovation from the 5000+ audience at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre. Hills assured the audience the show wouldn’t be doing any Farnham-like revival tours.

At the wrap party Hills, Myf Warhurst and Alan Brough paid tribute to the show, the crew, the ABC, musicians and the audience.

“We made a TV show that became a part of people’s lives. It actually united people. It brought families together,” Hills said.

“We entertained a nation and we helped people through hard times.”

Remembering a letter from a viewer, an emotional Hills fought back tears. He told guestsis out a letter from a woman whose mother was undergoing chemotherapy and they watched the show together in hospital, yelling at the screen.

“So we did affect people, and we were lucky to be a part of it all.”

On top of an AFI Award and a Logie, Spicks and Specks finished 2011 as ABC’s highest-rating show, capped off with its Farewell Tour.

“You don’t normally get to travel around the country and see all the people who used to watch (your show).

“Even Bruce Kane our Executive Producer said tonight he was staggered by the amount of people who turned up and gave us a standing ovation. We’re staggered by it. No-one on television really gets to do that.

“We had an amazing ride, we did amazing things and we were part of something really special.”

    1. I guess when there are large volumes of people giving passionate feedback there will always be positive and negative. I don’t know that it is unique to this site. Visit any of the network sites and it is the same. But I hear you….

  1. I wouldn’t blame the abc for it not coming to Tasmania the show is produced by hills management who also own the company that managed myf and Alan. Abc might get a cut but they don’t organise the tour.

  2. Thank you Spicks & Specks!

The tv show was great, the live farewell show was fantastic!

I would be surprised if any show Didn’t get a standing ovation – I didn’t want it to end.

  3. Pity that the ABC does not count Tasmania as part of Australia, It happened before with the rock tour, Tassmania was an afterthought and then it was not all that appeared on “mainland” Australia. I used to watch Spicks and Specks, but it got to be for me anyway too much of the same.
Anyway I would have liked to see the show but ABC and Tasmania, it appears that another show is coming but once again Tasmania will miss out. Why ?
