18 Comments:

  1. Won’t be watching YTT and New Girl again, but will definitely keep watching Homeland, thought it was great. Sorry, I thought New Girl was crap and I was really looking forward to seeing it after watching the promos.

  2. Homeland is a very good piece of television so I am glad it is on free to air television. However each episode is MA rated so, channel 10 are censoring it.

  3. YTT figures may actually improve when the tennis is over. The younger demographic watched it last night and the oldies the tennis. A lot of older people love watching kids singing so this show might be one of those rare shows that find a broad audience. This show will get better. It must of been hard to reboot this show and start with a whole new inexperienced cast. They will have training week in and week out. whilst it took bits from idol and glee, it also had its own feel to it .

  4. I think Homeland got bigger numbers here than in America. Wow, incredibly desevred, seen the show and it is fantastic. Thought that meant no one would tune in but Australia decided to watch something smart for once. Tomic’s match obivously gets big ratings.

  5. Maev....Sydney

YTT only came in on the younger demo….
@ JB,,…YTT is nothing like the original show….and that may be the problem…as I have stated before….looks more like Glee in the ads….

  6. Secret Squïrrel

Even with the tennis, Ten killed the demos. Agree with Tony Bee, the start was pretty hard to swallow. Fortunately it only improved from there and I thought it was great.

I suspect that a lot of people will have trouble relating to Dane’s character because of her flaws, plus she’s a little abrasive. However, just from the first ep, I can see why she won a Golden Globe. Patinkin was really good too. I’ll be back next week.

  7. Ahh.. it was Jurassic Park trilogy on 7Mate that bumped their numbers up! Good to see people watching the old blockbusters

And GO!’s numbers propped up by TBBT – perhaps the overkill was the cause of the soft numbers on the main channel.

@Kenny – the numbers are totalled for network share, not primary channel. TEN only has a 2% lead over Nine, hence “small” and that will be eroded by tonight.

  8. i doubt that these sort of numbers will hold for ten for very long particularly with Homeland. I think Homeland will eventually settle around 600,000 just like Hawaii Five O and Terra Nova, which began with big premiere numbers.

@DansDans – Big Bang Theory were repeats last night, not new episodes. There is a new episode on tonight at 7.30pm.

  9. Sorry Ten. I was wrong. All shows did very well for them. It probably helped that Federer was quick to beat Tomic, but still good numbers for Ten. YTT however will drop very quickly cos it looked horrible from what i saw. I’ve never seen the original show, nor am i the target audience, but it just looks so cheesy and like a school production.
No sign of The Project. Let’s see how it goes at 6 Mon-Fri. Doubt it’ll be good. I won’t be watching anymore now that it’s moved to that time. 6.30 is best for me.

  10. Not a tennis fan so watched Ten all night. The Project was average, YTT was fantastic and Homeland was very good but have to agree with @ Tony Bee about the credibility with the Baghdag scene. I was thinking the same. Ten did well but their digitals dissapointed.

  11. I think TEN would be happy to be 6.2% ahead of Nine for the night, not quite “small”, and to see two to three of their programs beat the Tennis in the 16-54s. Advertisers must be happy too.

  12. Not sure I’ll stick with Homeland. That opening scene of a crazy blonde-haired woman, her head barely covered and yelling into a phone in an American accent while striding alone through the streets of Baghdad, stretched credibility to breaking point.

  13. Congrats to Ten for a successful night with their new shows. Hope that this can continue into making them competitive again. Especially happy with the number for Homeland and the fact that Modern Family is back over the million.

  14. Wow!

Was not expecting YTT to have been out done by any other TEN offering. Well done to New Girl considering some magazine was offering the pilot episode for free or whatever the case was. I’ll be back next week for sure.

Any signs of OUAT in Cabramatta and The Project?

  15. Wow – this will be a big talking point for the day – but TEN’s super sunday starts off pretty big with four shows kicking it over 1mil viewers – I think everyone’s big surprise will be New Girl was the top rating TEN show of the evening, and I think we can assume that YTT would have been higher if not for the start of the tennis on Seven.

However, its cant all be good news for TEN – both ONE and ELEVEN took an absolute smashing (1.8% each) – GO and 7mate destroyoed them – and TEN’s initial lead over NINE for the week is rather small (Nine can thank GO for keeping them in the hunt).

BBT numbers were soft (for new episodes) but the danger for TEN now is that both New Girl and Homeland topped the demos – the same demos that are likely to now jump onto the download sites and get the remaining episodes of these shows – lets see what figures are like in 4 weeks, but I dont think they can hold strong at 1mil. Keep the marketing going for New Girl however, and who knows what could happen….?

Anyway, its an interesting start – too bad the week doesnt mean much in the scheme of things and Seven still has the juggernaut of the Men’s Finals next Sunday night – regardless of who is playing…
