TV Tonight Awards 2011: Bad news for Kyle & Jackie O.

Kyle Sandilands and Jackie O have been voted Worst Male and Worst Female for 2011 by readers of TV Tonight -and the bad news doesn't end there.

Kyle Sandilands has dominated the “Worst” categories in the TV Tonight Awards 2011, voted Worst Male and Most Overexposed Performer.

Co-presenter Jackie O has been voted “Worst Female” while Kyle & Jackie O’s Night with the Stars was a Runner-Up in Worst Show of the Year. That title went to Ben Elton’s Live from Planet Earth.

Sandilands’ radio attack on a TV reviewer was narrowly beaten by a handful of votes in the inaugural “Biggest Blunder of the Year” -awarded to “MasterChef‘s finale interrupted by The Renovators.”

Sandilands’ belated run with his late night Seven show appears to have undone any positivity he generated from Australia’s Got Talent, easily one of the biggest hits of the year.

Other names prominent in the “Worst” categories were Eddie McGuire, David Koch and Karl Stefanovic, who also featured amongst the Favourite Males.

The sole newcomer to the lists was Deni Hines.

It was a case of good news and bad news for TEN, with ELEVEN a runaway winner for Best Multichannel, but the Network slipped from first to third place overall.

While viewers may have liked 6:30 with George Negus they saw the revamp strategy as muddled, compounded by further network cuts.

By contrast, Seven’s success in 2011 was rewarded by readers voting it Best Free to Air Network.

Thankyou to everyone who took the time to vote and for the generous comments about the site.

86% of readers voted the site “Excellent” or “Very Good”, with just 1% voting “Disappointing.”

67% of readers visit the site at least once a day -or more- and voted “News”, “Independence and Credibility” and “Programming” the three most important attributes.

  1. I liked Ben Elton Live from Planet Earth. How can it be voted worst show when hardly anyone watched it? Shouldn’t more widely watched shows like ACA be on the list as, given their much higher viewing figures, they’d garner more opinions? No-one is seriously gonna say ACA is a much better show than Ben Elton, are they?

Group-think is alive & well here.

  2. Nothing to do with tall poppies. Night with the Stars was execrable as evidenced by the way its ratings plummeted throughout the show.

Sandilands is rightly reviled by decent people for his abhorrent behaviour. Jackie O cops a bit of flak by association, but she chooses to associate with Sandiland’s, and is condemned by her tacit approval of his nastiness.

  3. We get it Moanique, you like Kyle for some reason. But people calling a w*nker a w*nker does not equate to tall poppy syndrome, it is simply stating a fact. If he were the manager of a dick smiths store with his personality, people would think the same of him.

I don’t see why voting Jackie O the worst is unfair, her success rate was 0%, it may have only been one appearance, but it was on a pathetic pice of television.

  4. @ Ranco, I agree with you, it is a bit harsh to vote Jackie O worst female when she only appeared once on TV during the whole year ! As for Kyle being voted worst male, it obviously hasn’t affected AGT and I doubt if it will this year. Tall poppy syndrome alive and well

  5. As I asked when I sent my votes in I would like to see –

    1. Somewhere where we can see all the voting. Some of my votes were not for straight down the middle most obvious options. I’d like to know if people shared my opinion.

    2. Some of the funnier/weird responses. Good for a new years laugh!

  6. Again the results were pretty much spot on. Ten’s fall from 1st to 3rd is probably the big issue. Viewers have completely given up on the network and The Masterchef/Renovators blunder just shows how bad the network has become. Don’t agree Renovators should be included in worst show, but i think it’s more a case of that blunder p*ssed so many people off it lost them from the start. Is far better than the block.
Also interesting Sonia Kruger comes ahead of Kerri Anne in worst female. Smart decision Nine.

  7. The worst female is very inconsistent with the comments here. I thought Leila and Shelly were sure bets to be hated and Kerri-Anne and Sonia were widely liked. Vocal minorities I guess.

Kyle would read this and be proud and probably expect a raise. But the 4 runners up for worst male would have to be a concern for the respective network they have a lot invested in them and are not in positions where they thrive on being hated.

  8. Thanks David for another year of the TV Tonight Awards. Ben Elton and Night with the Stars were equally as bad though.
Who was the 1% who voted the site as disappointing?

  9. At least they’re the King and Queen of Australian radio in the best city in the world and that’s all that matters! Long live King Kyle and Queen Jack!
