TV Tonight turns 5!

Since I began blogging in 2007 there are now over 19,000 published posts and hundreds of thousands of Comments. Thanks everyone!

Today marks the 5th Birthday for TV Tonight.

Since I began blogging in 2007 there are now over 19,000 published posts and hundreds of thousands of Comments. I don’t think there’s a day when I haven’t added something to the site (including when the server went down).

As many of you know, the site is frequented by public, industry and media alike. From the viewer to the CEO, and that’s just the way I like it. At the end of the day we are all drawn to a good yarn, either on the box or about the box.

The last 12 months has been as big as ever, topping site records.

There were many stories broken here ahead of the pack, but tipping Big Brother: Secrets in April and then Sonia Kruger as host was as good as it gets. Other exclusive highlights were Ben Elton responding to a media backlash, chatting to Louis Theroux, James Sorensen breaking his silence, tipping Rob Mills as Young Talent Time host, Peter Everett talking about being sacked, and annual interviews with all the Programmers: Brendan Dahill, Brian Walsh, David Mott, Jane Roscoe, Michael Healy, Tim Worner.

Other feature interviews included Aaron Fa’aoso, Adam Hills, Adam Zwar, Alex Dimitriades, Amanda Brotchie, Angelo Cardamone, Anita Jacoby, Antony Starr, Asher Keddie, Bernard Curry, Betty Bobbitt,  Bryan Brown, Callan Mulvey, Cameron Welsh, Caroline Gillmer, Charlie Pickering, Chrissie Swan, Colin Ferguson, Darren Wick, David Speers, Dicko, Doug Peiffer, Dustin Clare, Ed Kavalee, Eddie McClintock, Geoff Morrell, George Houvardas, George Negus, Geraldine Doogue, Hannah Gadsby, Hugh Johnstone-Burt, Imogen Banks, Jackie Woodburne, James Buckley, John Edwards, John Foreman, Jordan Smith, Josephine Cardamone, Judith Lucy, Julia Morris, Julia Zemiro, Kate Bracks, Kylie Gillies, Larry Emdur, Laura Waters, Lawrence Leung, Lewis Fitzgerald, Margaret Pomeranz, Marta Dusseldorp, Matt Lanter, Melissa Doyle, Michael Ebeid, Michael McKay, Michael Rowland, Mick Molloy, Mimi Butler, Natalie Barr, Nelson Aspen, Nick Colquhoun, Nicole Minchin, Nicole Sheffield, Raye Coleby, Sarah Ferguson, Shannon Marinko, Shaun Micallef, Shelley Conn, Stefan Dennis, Steve Curry, Steve Le Marquand, Stuart Menzies, Susan Bower, Susie Porter, Tim Ayliffe, Todd Lasance, Todd Sampson, Tony Martin, Victor Corones, Virginia Trioli, Wil Anderson -and that doesn’t include Red Carpet vox pops.

Other major stories include the Editors in Deadline Hell, ABC pulling miniseries funding over casting disagreement, the Current Affairs Taste Test, Audience Inventory and the TV Tonight Awards -the 2011 results will be published next week.

In 2012 we have Olympics, new Pay TV channels, new CEOs, fresh dramas, new comedies, nostalgic brands returning and Awards season is just around the corner.

Soon, TV Tonight will also have its own makeover. Thanks for your feedback in the recent survey.

But thankyou most for your continued patronage and your passion. It means a lot.

Here’s to the next 12 months.

Cheers, David.

  3. Happy Birthday TV Tonight and let me say congratulations and thank you to David providing such an informative website.

This website is one the few that I visit on a daily basis.

The programming updates are extremely useful and help me keep track of the all too regular changes that are made by FTA networks

I also particularly I enjoyed your articles on the reunions and functions that were held for the Australian TV classic ‘Prisoner’.

For 2012, I hope that all of those Today Tonight viewers will stop e-mailing you with their complaints. *smiles*

  4. Congrats on 5 yrs and a great site……
I am not sure when I came here….I Googled for some TV info and wound up here….best thing I ever did…..I visit a number of times during the day/night.

  8. Congratulations David, I too am a loyal follower and have TV Tonight as my homepage. I would love to see some facebook comment interaction similar to digital spy.

  9. Happy birthday to you.So glad I found this site many years ago. Makes it fun when I pass on link to others and they get enjoyment out of it too.

Great to know the public has somewhere to go where views can be heard and networks sometimes listen. Even better when you post scops ahead of tabloids and other media.

P.S. Wonder what 10 shows David is looking forward to this year ?
So far, the most hyped has to be – Homeland,Revenge,The Block & Excess Baggage

  10. Congratulations David on a brilliant achievement. I always used to make sure I had the radio on Joy FM at around 5.45 (I think it was) to hear “TV Tonight”. And I remember when the site was first announced… it had a daggy blogger template with no logo… who knew then how big it would become?? Well done on five years and 19,000 posts! 🙂

  11. Happy Birthday TV Tonight, this is one, no this is the most frequently updated and informative blog on the internet! No other television blog could compare to TV Tonight.

Thank you so much for all the hard work you put into this site, David. Many of us appreciate how informative and frequently updated this website is.

    Here’s to 2012!

    Best Wishes

  12. Happy birthday, TVTonight and congratulations, David. I’ve made a few friends, had a bundle of laughs, been kept informed and agreed wholeheartedly and taken umbrage with various articles over the years. But as you rightly say, everyone from a casual TV viewer to CEO’s read and contribute with everyone’s voice valued equally which makes TVTonight a unique and cherished place. Gunnya, pal! 🙂
