US announcer Dick Tufeld, best known as the voice of the robot on Lost in Space, has died, aged 85.
Tufeld served as the announcer for the cartoons Bugs Bunny and The Jetsons, announced 16 Grammy Awards and the Emmys and did voice work on such series as Peyton Place, Zorro, Get Smart, It’s Garry Shandling’s Show, The Simpsons and The Fantastic Four, The Time Tunnel and Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea.
But it was as the voice of the robot on Lost in Space (1965-68) that he is best known, with catchphrases such as “Warning, warning,” “Danger, Will Robinson!” and “It does not compute” becoming part of television history.
While Tufeld provided the voice, it was Bob May inside the robot suit alongside Jonathan Harris and Billy Mumy. May died in 2009.
Tufeld also served as the announcer for variety shows hosted by the likes of Judy Garland, Milton Berle, Julie Andrews, Red Skelton, Rodney Dangerfield and Tom Jones and voiced hundreds of commercials.

For some time now I have been re-watching Lost In Space from the beginning.
The first episode that I saw today in my rewatch since learning about Dick Tufeld’s passing yesterday is called Ghost In Space.
Quite an eerie title in regards to the timing of Tufeld’s passing.
Best Robot Ever
The battery pack has now been taken out of The Robot for the last time. Look out for that shooting star !!!
In one of these sad coincidences, Tufeld died shortly after the second anniversary of Bob May’s passing, May having died on January 18 2009.
RIP Mr Tufeld.

Irwin Allen had nothing to do with the Fantastic Four cartoon that Tufeld had worked on.
