2012 Australian Swimming Championships on TEN

Ian Thorpe, Libby Trickett and Michael Klim 'return' to the pool at the Australian Swimming Championships in March.

TEN will screen the 2012 Australian Swimming Championships next month, hosted by Nicole Livingstone, Stephen Quartermain and Mark Howard.

Staged at the SA Aquatic and Leisure Centre, the event will be broadcast live to Sydney, Melbourne and Perth markets on TEN and ONE from Thursday, March 15.

Boasting Australia’s best swimmers, the competition will be held over eight days from March 15 to March 22, and will incorporate selection for the swimming component of the 2012 London Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The biggest names in Australian swimming will descend on the SA Aquatic and Leisure Centre in Adelaide including James Magnussen, Stephanie Rice, Leisel Jones, Geoff Huegill, Eamon Sullivan and Alicia Coutts.

This meet will also mark the return of Ian Thorpe, Libby Trickett and Michael Klim to the pool, all vying for a place on the 2012 London Olympic team.

World 100m freestyle champion from Shanghai last year, 20-year-old James Magnussen, said he was looking forward to next month’s meet being broadcast live on TEN and ONE.

“This will be my first Olympic Trials and it’s great to know everyone back in my home town of Port Macquarie will be able to watch all the action live on TEN and ONE,” Magnussen said.

A member of Network Ten’s 2010 Commonwealth Games commentary team and Olympic hopeful Libby Trickett added: “The Olympic Trials is the biggest swim meet in Australia every four years and it’s great to see TEN and ONE will be showing it live.”

Network TEN’s Head of Sport, David Barham said: “Viewers and fans will be able to see all the excitement and action of these Australian swimmers vying for their place on the Olympic team live and exclusively on TEN and ONE.

“It’s a jam packed schedule of events with more than five hours of live swimming on TEN and more than eight hours of live swimming on ONE.

“Congratulations to Swimming Australia’s management who have constructed a program that will suit fans on television as well as at the event.”

Swimming Australia CEO, Kevin Neil said: “We’ve been working closely with the team at Network TEN to ensure the 2012 Energy Australia Swimming Championships is a fantastic event, and everyone is looking forward to what will be eight days of swimming on both TEN and ONE.”

“The people of Adelaide are getting behind the event through ticket sales at the venue, and I’m sure the rest of Australia will watch on with plenty of interest as our swimmers race for Olympic selection,” he added.

*live refers to the Sydney, Melbourne and Perth markets only.

  1. Its good that Adelaide is Finally hosting a national swimming championships. However once again over here in SA we get treated like crap. Why aren’t TEN broadcasting it Live on ONE for SA, QLD & WA? This is exactly the crap iam talking about. Ten are doing exactly what the rest of the networks are only broadcasting it Live in a couple of major cities or two states maybe three and the rest get left behind, they did this with the Hopman Cup also this year. During the sports reports the watermark at the top right hand corner said ONE Live but when it was broadcast in SA it was on Delay the water mark was on the bottom right indicating that it was treated as a regular show.

  2. Will Adelaide still be getting the full coverage on a delay or something? Because I’m only going on one night and was planning in watching the rest on tv!!
